What Do You Guys Use On Your Leather Interior?

Amazon.com: Meguiar's G18616 Gold Class Leather Conditioner - 16 oz.: Automotive

I've been using this. It seems to work OK. You just wipe it on and off. I was just wondering if there was something better? When you go to the auto parts store, there is literally an isle full of these type of products. You would damn near go broke trying them all. I just wondered if there was anything you guys found and stuck with because you're happy with the results over all the other stuff?

I like 303 aerospace protectant. I use it on the seats, dash, rubber molding, and engine bay. I spray a little on a microfiber cloth and wipe the area and that's it. It leaves a nice clean finish without shine just clean looking!

I found that a damp hand towel followed by a dry one works great on leather. And the best part, it's free.

Re: What Do You Guys Use On Your Leather Interior?

The problem out here is extreme heat, combined with very low humidity. In the Summer months the temperature of a car interior, (along with the inside of a garage), can get over 130F. Even higher if the car is parked in direct Sunlight for any length of time. This plays hell with the leather, and dries it out in short order. So it's almost a requirement to keep the leather protected in some way, in order to replenish the moisture that is lost over time. Otherwise the leather can start cracking. Especially in high wear areas like the side edge of the drivers seat from getting in and out.

On all of my gun leather I use Neatsfoot Oil. It works great, but the problem with it is it's no good for leather car interiors, because it takes a long time for it to soak in before the oiliness disappears. So I'm looking for a better product. The problem with all of this stuff is you really don't know if it's working or not. The Meguiar's Leather Protectant I'm currently using seems to be doing a good job. It's oily when you apply it, but seems to soak in fast. I usually put a heavy coat of it on when I know we won't be driving the car for a while. That gives it more time to be absorbed, rather than be rubbed off on clothing.

You might want to be careful with all that oil! If it soaks in it could start eating the foam cushion in the seats. I've been using the 303 for some years and kept everything like factory new. My BMW was 10 yrs old when I got rid of it and looked and felt great. My BMW dealer was impressed enough he got some for his personal car. Just get a small bottle and try it on your dash, a little goes a long way. Go to detailed image and read the reviews.

Trust me. Out here it doesn't last long enough to soak in.

You get free water and hand towels?

One could be rude and suggest that moderate rubbing with cheddar cheese might also work.

So, you follow the advice that Jeep gives in the owner's manual, instead of all the hype?

The urethane coating on Jeep leather doesn't allow for a whole lot of soaking in.

Re: What Do You Guys Use On Your Leather Interior?

I use Chemical Guys Leather Cleaner and Conditioner with a microfiber towel. Works great. I apply it to the towel and work it into the towel for the perforated sections of the seat.

Now, why would I want to waste perfectly good cheese?
