Re: What kind of wax do you use?

^^^ fully understood... i just wanted to make sure he understands that there is no "miracle wax" that will make any paint finish shine like crazy...

i do also want to try m21 and p21s this year as well... first i have to try optimum opti seal... its suppose to be great as a wax/sealant

Re: What kind of wax do you use?

Good info guys
Looks like Meguiar's Gold's the winner

As for prepping the paint before waxing. I use polishing agents but never tried clay bar. Would the final result be the same or should clay bar be combined with polishing agent??

Re: What kind of wax do you use?

you would clay bar after you wash your truck. I would def claybar! it helps remove surface contaminants that you can't wash off!

get a sandwhich bag. place your hand inside the bag and lights glide over your paint after you wash your truck. if you feel bumps and rough stuff on the paint. you need to clay bar! if you ifeel perfectly smooth paint you are ok! claying should only take you 45 mins for the entire truck! def worth doing it!

if you can try out #26 from meguiars. usually available at pepboys and autozone. much better than gold class IMO

Re: What kind of wax do you use?

polishing removes swirls/scratches from your clear coat. clay bar removes the surface contaminants

DetailedImage.com is a glorious beacon of light
Re: What kind of wax do you use?

I'll try to provide some relatively brief insight here. A polish is used to help clean and correct the surface so it's free from swirls, oxidation, etc. Polishes with micro-abrasives (sounds scary but totally safe) are really the key to removing swirls, etc. Polishes (not waxes or sealants) are the key to a deep shine because they make the clear coat look optically clear and really reflective. A good polish with micro-abrasives needs to be worked in with more power for optimal results so a buffer is a HUGE help. I suggest doing a full detail with polishes at least once a year to get the paint looking near perfect again. The DI Packages Porter Cable 7424 XP, Meguiar's Polish and Hydro Pads kit is a perfect combo if you want to restore your paint and bring back that deep and glossy look.

Sealants and waxes are used to protect your paint and enhance the way it already looks. Sealants are artificial waxes that last far longer and are my recommendation for a daily driver. We estimate most sealants will last about 3 - 6 months and most waxes will last 2 - 5 weeks. If desired you can layer a wax over a sealant for more protection and shine. My favorite sealant is the Blackfire Wet Diamond with Polycharger because it lasts a really long time and looks amazing on all colors. If you want a more affordable option try the Poorboy's World EX-P Sealant. For waxes the Poorboy's World Natty's Blue Paste Wax is an outstanding option!

If you have any questions about these products or anything related to detailing please check out our detailing guide or ask me. Hope this helped!
