Cool Zymol Vintage Detail.

Hey everyone!

Ok so here goes.... I was browsing around the sales section of a detailing forum I'm on, and found a guy selling some Vintage (he upgraded to Royale hence sale ). So after sleeping on it, I woke up, shut my eyes and bought 8 oz of the stuff for 500 pound (~$800).

It wasn't an easy decision, however browsing the Zymol site I found Altlantique which is 1100 pound (I use a US keyboard with no GBP symbol, hence why I'm typing 'pound') for an 8 oz tub. So I figured f00k it, I'm getting Vintage which is better and at half the price - I can't loose.

Now, I am of the believe that the LSP (last stage product, basically the protection layer; wax/sealant) adds very little to the finish of paintwork and I figured buying this wax was a great way to test that theory - hoping it would prove it wrong!

So I set about taking pics of the crucial stages; after claying, HD-Cleanse (Zymol's pre-wax cleanser/glaze) and one coat of Vintage.

Right, so here we go.....

I never took any before pics of the Jeep, it really wasn't that bad and it wouldn't show anything.

So step one consisted of:

Then, after drying off and claying I took these pics.

Doesn't look that bad huh? Well, on to HD-Cleanse.

Wow! Don't know if its clear in the photos, but after that it looked as good as I've ever seen. The paint was so wet and deep, IMO this rivaled (maybe even bettered) the 8 coats Zaino sealants it was wearing.

Now on to the exciting bit. I applied the wax with a Meguair's Foam Applicator pad as hand application is just wasteful and its easier to get nice even thin coats with a pad.

Unfortunately the clouds came and spoiled the afters (I will post new ones this weekend when its sunny and clean again), although I could still see a really big improvement.

So will I be using Zaino again? Well, no. Vintage gave a much nicer finish with just 2 steps (HD-C > Wax), Zaino had 8 coats (Z5 x3, Z2 x3, Z-CS x2) and took 3 days to apply Vintage took 2 hours - it will also last 6 months!

Now, was it worth the money? Probably not, but with enough wax to do 40 coats it will last me a while.

I'm now looking forward to redefining/burnishing the finish with a rotary to really get the most from this stuff!

As I said above, I've got my fingers crossed for a sunny day this weekend to get some proper shots to show the finish off properly.

Thanks for reading!

BTW: The StreetJeeps decal is coming off this weekend, Jeep Garage one to be ordered!

dang the rear end is so . . . so . . . PERFECT! on mine it's pretty bad, I clay bared it so it's smoothe but theres still a boat load of scratches on the D pillars and the the paint where the rear wiper sits (under the rear window) I've tried polish, scratch remover, and clay baring, and nothing has worked, is this a problem on yours? and if so please tell me how you got rid of this.

Thanks Irf! A few at work commented that it looked better than what it had so I'm pretty pleased that non-detailing people noticed an improvement.

I do agree with you Dylan; Roxy does have a nice azz.

With the paintwork being silver though, it can hide some sins easier than darker colors. The area where the wiper sits did have some deep scratches but they disappeared with about 4 hits with ScratchX IIRC...

I never use the rear wiper - which is basically the problem, blade carries dirt/grit onto the paint and scratches it.

Thanks Paul, it does really come alive in the sun when the wax melts slightly to give a really wet finish!

The smell of Vintage is really quite neutral to be honest, you really need to stick your nose pretty close to smell it. I could only describe it as marzipan/vanilla...

I should be able to get these easy enough with the recent rainfall here!

It also sheets water fantastically too, thereby reducing the chances of inflicting swirls when drying.
