Re: Battery/Charging issues AGAIN!!

Hopefully that fixed the issue! I remember I got a battery in my Intrepid R/T and then 4 months later it was dead. Had a bad cell. Got a new one for free though since it had a 36 month free replacement warranty.

However after that I did start having an issue with something draining the battery while the car was turned off and it would kill the battery if I didn't drive it for 24-36 hours or so. You can use the ammeter on your multimeter to see what kind of draw is going on while the truck is turned off. It should say in the FSM what an acceptable range is for said draw. In my Intrepid it was like .2 amps or something.

Re: Battery/Charging issues AGAIN!!

I had the same recurring problem, turned out to be the rear seat DVD with a constant current draw. Took a long time to find it

New DVD system and she all fixed (under warranty).

That's funny you say that. My stereo guy asked me if I had one. He said they have been known to draw power from batteries. Guess he wasn't full of shit afterall.

Re: Battery/Charging issues AGAIN!!

Yeah it took about 6 months to finally get to the bottom of it. dealer wasn't able to find it, but I convinced them to send it to a Auto electrician friend of mine (R.I.P. Johhny) and he isolated the DVD current draw by removing fuses one by one.
Might definately be worth a second look if you haven't already mate

Re: Battery/Charging issues AGAIN!!

You mentioned going to your stereo shop, What all do you have stereo-wise? If you are running a decent "sized" stereo, dropping a deep cycle battery is most definately worht, i.e. Optima, Odyssey.

Do you live really close to work? What I mean is, do you make alot of short trips? The alternator doesn't have enough time to fully recharge a battery when the run time is only 15-20 minutes, especially if you have a stereo pulling additional power. This doesn't harm the battery quickly, it's something that takes many moons until it effects it.

Also, spraying the terminals with 'terminal protector spray.' It's a nasty smelling stuff, heavily toxic, usually in a spray can about the size of an Ozium (air freshener) can; red in color. Little things like this help to extend battery life.

Re: Battery/Charging issues AGAIN!!

Running 2 amps. JL HD750.1 and a JL HD600.4 1350 watts total. I don't work. I live at the beach so everything here is a short trip pretty much. I'm looking into a Kinetic 1800 battery in the future if this one dies quickly. We'll see.

Re: Battery/Charging issues AGAIN!!

I have had two different model year GCSRTs and both of them suffered from failed batteries The 06 lasted me almost 6mo. (truck bought used) and my 07 barely lasted me a month (also bought used) Neither one had an aftermarket stereo in at the time AND both rigs have different features!! My 06 even had an UDP and it lasted longer than my 07. Explain this one... ...lol.
