Re: P0700 code

Even if the light goes out,the codes don't go away. The pcm turns out the CEL after what it considers 3 "good trips",but the codes are not erased. The PCM will show a stored P0700 and the TCM will have whatever code(s) stored in memory. I think it takes 255 good trips to erase codes,or at least it used to be like that.
An intermittent p0700 can be a lot of things,I see a lot of problems with the ESM,which means electronic shifter module. It's part of the shifter bezel, usually when it goes bad,the prndl in the dash lights up all the gears when the CKE comes on,so if it happens again check that.Best advice I can give is to get it checked so you know exactly what you are dealing with.Oh and the best part,if it is the shifter bezel, since its a Mercedes part, its about $750.It used to be a lot cheaper. All trans parts are overpriced since Mercedes and Chrysler aren't friends anymore

Re: P0700 code

This freakin light comes and goes as it pleases. 60 miles, I get "service parking assist" message. Stop at the store and no more light. Another 60 or so miles and same thing, then overnight it goes away...

Re: P0700 code

I mentioned this on my "Limp Mode" thread, but my 2006 SRT8 with 88,000 miles occasionally goes into limp mode at sustained high speed or even low speed. It happens at random and generally when I am not changing gears. Most times the CEL does not come on. My Jeep dealer in PA says its the ESM (just as XJ31 describes) and costs $915 US. While on a trip to Canada another dealer gave me a price of just over $1000 CDN. Installation takes less than an hour. These prices are outrageous to correct a design defect! Question: Is it possible this problem of dropping into limp mode could clear up on its own?

Re: P0700 code

yeah its the shifter.

but dont run out and buy one.
get some contact cleaner and clean the plates inside.

there are links here to a detail writ up on the red site. but its rather simple. remove the TOP of the shifter, the ESM, then once in hand OPEN it up and ou can see these circuit boards and sliding contacts. clean it all and reinstall.

and the 0700 is a generic PCM code that says there are codes in the TCM. I dont THINK the pred will read or clear those takes a starscan.

Re: P0700 code

I asked two dealers to clean it as robpp describes, but they wouldn't and I don't have the tools or technical skills to tackle it.

Re: P0700 code

bro its very easy to do.
a dealer only knows how to replace a complete component. go to a real good indy shop; they MAY do it for you.

or do it youself; its easy.

Re: P0700 code

Update,
after no problems for 3 weeks, light came back on this morning. Took it to dealer so they could diagnose before light reset as usual. Turns out it was the ESM as everyone suggested. I had them replace it and it cost me a grand total of $164.25 parts and labor. I have an extended warranty for another year that I didn't know about...
