Question Radiator Fan Death Rattle.... Need Advice

My rad fan is rattling like crazy and I'm pretty sure it's on it's final days. When I was driving home I noticed my coolant temp was higher than normal and heard a strange noise, so I decided to pull into the gas station for better lighting to look under the hood. I noticed my fan (shroud and all) was rattling like crazy and it sounding like sh*t (grinding). I'm guessing it's time is very near???

Does anyone know of a good/great replacement brand of rad fan or am I stuck replacing it with an OEM? Also if not OEM than what diameter should I go? 14"? Gonna do the work myself (out of warranty), so I just need a little help on the replacement fan side of things.

Thanks in advance.

I would replace it with the oem. Something might of caught in the fan causing it too tear apart

Umm… an OEM fan has a more exposed guts except for the fan shroud but I'd be willing to give up the fan shroud for a more reliable fan.

Does anyone have any firsthand knowledge of using an aftermarket fan?

As far as reliability, they have not been problematic on the Jeeps. You can get a brand new one from Jeep for around $140-$160 ($179 MSRP). You can get an aftermarket fan/shroud assembly for ~$105 shipped if you want to go that way but no idea how good they are vs OEM. Personally, I'd feel much more comfortable with the OEM replacement.

Milous, if I was to go with an aftermarket I was thinking of fabricating a shroud using aluminum that would use factory mounting locations. Do you know if I should get a 14" or 16" fan? I haven't torn into it yet so I didn't check any measurements as of yet, just looking for a little input first. Is the oem fan 14"?

Where do you get the tank of fuel comment from? There's no mention of fuel in this thread, just questions about aftermarket rad fans.

Man you must drive a lot to be out of warranty already on a '10. Anyways, I've done some reading on this problem before & the general consensus with the guys is to stick with the stocker.

duh, aftermarket fan costs 105 roughly oem fan costs 175. tank of fuel costs 70 to 80 bucks. so henceforth my comment oem fan costs about 1 tank of fuel more than aftermarket fan that dosent come with any shroud.hope this clears things up

Oh ya, it gets driven. SRT warranties aren't that great at 3yr/60,000km. It's my daily driver and it's pretty much all highway.
