Good Point... I have forgot about this... I run this oil and change it every 7500 or 6months....

Re: Suggestions on changing oil in the SRT8

Mobil1 Oil (either 0w-40 or 15w-50 depending on time of year) and Mobil 1 oil filters since I bought the Jeep new.

I change the oil every 3,000 miles. May be early to change, but I've been told I have a heavy foot so I figure better safe than sorry.

Re: Suggestions on changing oil in the SRT8

Royal purple is good, but it's never on sale and it can be a biotch to find. Usually Autozone or one of the shops have mobil 1 on sale with filters. I believe royal purple sells the synthetic gear oil though.

Re: Suggestions on changing oil in the SRT8

i just did my il change. i didnt need to let it drain too long since it sat overnight.

i used mobile 1 and my k&n filter.

the filter was a PITA to get out, but oddly enough went in better than it came out.

ok im good for a another couple thousand miles. gonna quick detail it in a minute.

cheers fellas.

what are some great brands to use when i change the oil in the SRT8?

what brands do you use for the filter? do i stick with a new stock mopar jump off? part # (mopar p/n 04884899AB)

how many quarts of oil do i purchase? keeping in mind that i like to leave 2 bottles of extra oil in the beast at all times. just something ive been doing for ages now.

now i hear often that changing the synthetic at 3000 is bad or what have yous is it really? should i really be doing it at 5-6000 miles?

i know joe did his at like 1500 give or take- after this weekend trip, im due up, even though, my instruments arent telling me to do so just yet.

cheers-
Mobil One, Mobil One, Mobil One!

Run it until 3K and change it again with Mobil One. Any engine like that should have fully synthetic in it if your going to run it. Changing the synthetic every 3K miles isn't going to hurt a thing. My Camaro has to have Mobil One at every 3000 miles so your going to be find with it.

As for break in, I've been told change at 1k or 3k. Probably doesn't really matter.
I changed both my MKZ and my moms SHO at the 1st 2K miles. I'm going to follow this same pattern with my Libby. Since the 1st oil change is free, I'm really not loosing out on anything but time.

Also, I didn't say this in the last post but I use Mobil One oil filter. It just seams right.....

That is how most filters are. When I changed the oil in my SS, I had to drill through the filter just to turn it. My filter tool couldn't even get it off

Re: Suggestions on changing oil in the SRT8

amazon.com has the basement price on the K&N oil for our rigs.
I've been using valvoline synthetic with extra zinc stuff in it. every 3500.

The following items have been shipped to you by Amazon.com:
--------------------------------------------------------------------
Qty Item Price Shipped Subtotal
---------------------------------------------------------------------
Amazon.com items (Sold by Amazon.com, LLC):
2 K&N HP-2004 Oil Filter $9.86 2 $19.72
Shipped via UPS
Tracking number: 1Z410E7W0257355499
---------------------------------------------------------------------
Item Subtotal: $19.72
Shipping and handling: $0.00
Total: $19.72

Don't forget to get the little rubber gasket off. Sometimes they stick, and the few horror stories we've read for our jeeps have involved not getting that off and putting a new filter on = oil runs out.

Right now, I have Valvoline 20w-50 conventional racing oil in my Jeep. It's on sort of a break-in, I'll probably switch back to synthetic after the next oil change.

I've been told that 20-50 is a huge no-no in the 5.7 and 6.1 Motors, both by the SRT engineers, and my machinist. the 0-40 is not just for fuel economy or the tight bearing clearances, the 5.7 and 6.1s are Top oiling engines in that the oil gets to the lifters through the rocker arms. Rocker arm shafts>rocker arms>pushrods> then the lifters. Everything I have heard tells me the heavier 20-50 oil will starve the lifters and cam for oil.

Question Re: Suggestions on changing oil in the SRT8

Hello!

Im going to change the engine oil in the Jeep SRT8. It's GC 06 with BorlaS, K&N CAI, DiabloSport Trinity, and catchcan. It has 140K km / it's about 85K mileage on the odometer. I live in Poland, dont drive in winter, only in spring/autumn/summer. Here climate isnt very cold 40Fdeg at lower in spring/autumn to 95F in summer. Im not racing very much (because here everyone have diesels ) Its fourth car in garage therefore I drive not to much - about 4K miles/year.
What type of oil is the best for this engine?
Even if engine is in great condition I think fillng it with factory 0W40 isnt good idea, looking at its mileage.
In europe we have some good oil form castrol - it's Castrol Edge Sport 10W60 - recommended for all bmw M series, ferrari, lamborghini and turbo engines:
http://www.castrol.com/castrol/produ...tentId=7027067

It's the same oil: http://www.castrol.com/castrol/produ...tentId=7027056

I'm also thinking about 5W40 for Diesel Engines.
http://www.castrol.com/castrol/produ...tentId=7027069

What are You thinking about?

In summer I fill Ram srt10 with castrols 10W60 and for now it run great, but it has only 20K mileage. I also fill with the same oil Mini Cooper S with turbo, but it has little mileage too. By the way, do you think its good oil for SRT10?

Re: Suggestions on changing oil in the SRT8

I've been using Royal Purple for a few years now, no problems. You can usually find it on Amaz--- for less than $100 for 12. I even get free shipping. Mobil 1 is usually a bit more expensive. As previously mentioned, filters are also a good buy on Amaz---.
