1.5 mpg improvement

Well, I read a lot of reviews on the FIPK for the JK. There seemed to be an awful lot of haters out there. I've had nothing but good results in the past, so I went ahead and did it again. I figured I'd post some hard numbers for folks. I don't have a dyno, nor am I interested in validating K&N's claims of HP improvement, but I do feel an improvement, especially in acceleration. Now here is the hard data I do have:

Avg MPG before intake kit = 17.6 mpg
Avg MPG since intake kit = 19.1 mpg
Avg MPG savings = 1.5 mpg

$2.00 avg cost per gallon

31,000 mile payoff at $.008924 savings per mile taking into account $36 you save in paper filters over that period of time.

You're not saving much, but there is still a measurable improvement. After 31k, it's money in the bank.

Re: 1.5 mpg improvement

lol.
i have a k/n fipk on mt 5.3l chev tahoe... i cant prove any hp or mpg increase but it sure sounds cool..
lol..

how does the 3.8l jk sound?

i had also used just the k/n filter on my 2007 3.8l jk... i havent changed anything on my new jkur...

lately k/n is getting a lot of bad press about the oil in their filters making airflow sensors fail....
i changed my fipk filter to a dry amsoil filter...

any other thoughts?????

My JK sounds much better...like it should sound! I also have the engine cover off right now though. Not sure if that's adding to the sound or not. It's out being "modded". I've also never had an airflow sensor fail and I've always run an FIPK in all of my vehicles. I guess if you over-oil it, it's possible, but I tend to clean it, let it dry completely, then lightly oil it. I also run a drycharger pre-filter over the filter element just to be safe...plus it greatly reduces how filthy the filter gets.
