2015 Holdover pricing - thoughts from others?

Any sage advice/thoughts on pricing/purchasing a 2015 JKU - new, never titled? I am open to doing so but don't want to take a bath on depreciation... I may stick with getting a 2017 - but tempted if I could save enough $$$$

I am unsure what you are asking. "Pricing" and "depreciation" implies that you own a 2015 that you want to sell. "Purchasing" implies you found a dealer with a 2015 still sitting on their new car lot. Which is it?

Yeah. My post wasn't quite clear. A dealer has a new 2015 still sitting on the lot. I am not opposed to scooping it up at the right price, though not pay too much and eat the depreciation. Just wondered if someone had knowledge of what would be fair expectation on pricing. I may just wait for Aug 11th to roll around and see what can be ordered...Hypergreen...or what the wait will be on Gobi....color production dates...etc.

I appreciate the reply WaltA!

The dealers have the color samples for the 2017 vehicles. The color sample chart I saw had the Gobi and Chief but no Acid Yellow.

Yeah - unless I save a BOATLOAD of cash 2017 is a much smarter play. So you got to peep the color samples? What did you think of Gobi/Chief?

I really liked them. Plan to order a 2017 75th anniversary or hard rock because of their hoods. Will wait until close to end of the year so we will be able to see vehicles in those colors and maybe by then know when the JL will be introduced. Info he had led him to believe that info/ordering would happen early in 2017 with availability late spring or early summer.

Wranglers hold their value. Even if you found a used 2015, its price would be up there.

The biggest difference between the new 2015, and the new 2017, are all the price increases that occurred over that time period. With the new 2015, your negotiation starting point will be less by the total of those increases.

Only you can answer the question if the new 2015 costs you a few grand less than the new 2017, will the 2015 still make you just as happy?

Remember, even though some new colors might be part of the September announcement of the 2017 JK models, that doesn't mean the color will be shipping. For example, Mojave Sand was part of the initial 2016 September announcement, and was even shown in the 2016 brochure, but didn't start shipping until the following spring. A long wait.

So, being afraid to order a Wrangler in a new color without seeing one in person first, leads you to a long, long wait. And by then, there will probably other new colors on the horizon, and more waiting to see those. So on and so on, leaving you perpetually Wrangler-less.

How long do you usually keep your cars? If you are like me ... Keeping cars until wheels fall off and odometer goes back to 0 than who cares what MY is it as there are no functional differences between 17 and 15. If you are usually swapping cars after a couple of years than ... You would be 2 years behind unless you get a crazy deal ... which I doubt you will get.

The 2015 will have a 100k mile drive train warranty. The 2017 does not.

That only maters if you even come close to traversing 100K miles of trails in 5 years. For me, I don't think I would even break 25K miles by then.
