2015 RHR Sound System (Alpine 9 speakers)

Has anybody issues with the sub-woofer?
Here's what I recently noticed (when I installed my hard-top for the winter), the sub-woofer sound level changes considerably when you plug/unplug the connector that powers the wiper and defroster in the back.
When I plug it in, the bass sound almost disappears completely (it's like the power to the sub-woofer it's getting drained or something). When I unplug the connector it goes back to the right level again. Both, the defroster and wiper switches were off and I tried with the engine running too.

I would appreciate if somebody with a RHR could do that quick test and let me know if you notice the same.

I talked to the dealer and he said he's waiting for a response from Chrysler, but I'm interested to see if this is a common issue or it's just my Jeep.

Thanks much

I hope someone can chime in with an actual test doing the same thing as you asked. (Sorry I don't have a 2015)

but from what I know about previous Jeeps, it should be quieter when you unplug it and louder when you plug it. So the behavior you're experiencing is strange.

Your dealer should have a PDF of the wiring diagram, I wouldn't be surprised if Jeep isn't using the wiper/defroster as the power source since its right there.

Should be interesting, I have the Alpine system coming on my Soft Top, I'm curious to see what the connection is like since it won't actually have the hard wiring for the wiper/defroster.

Re: 2015 RHR Sound System (Alpine 9 speakers)

I know this is an old post, but I found this Youtube video where an Alpine engineer is explaining the system. He says that they change the EQ of the system based on if the top is on or off, and the way they detect that the top is off is by sensing if the rear wiper is there or not.

There is a jumper between two pins at the hard top wire disconnect that you can install to fool the system into thinking the hard top is there all the time. I can't recall the two pins or wire colors you need to connect, but you may attempt to Google it.
Better yet, swap the factory sub with the Kicker setup.
The amp is tucked away under the dash, and the 10" sub can be easily removed and disconnected if you need the cargo space by flipping the rear seat forward.

I found a video of a guy demoing the jumper you are talking about:

It seems like this jumper has the opposite effect on a 2014 and older Wrangler than it does on the 2015 and newer Wrangler with Alpine 9 speaker system. I guess I won't know until (hopefully) December as I have a JKUHR on order. Like Tom Petty says, the waiting is the hardest part!

2015 we have the sub in the floor bord its not a round sub

I habe a 2015 rhr and when i put on my soft top the sound of the base went down

I did the wire trick and it works

The reason for this is so u dont blow ur speamers when u have ur soft top on becaise of noise and such

Yes, the video was cool seeing the tech they put into the system including the sound shift when the hard top is unplugged. I never hear what the sub does with a soft top only jeep though. Do they Hotwire it so it is always on?
