What kind of real world gas mileage should I expect on my new Wrangler? My mileage indicator came on reading quite low. When it first came on it was showing 3-4 mpg. I now have about 40 miles on the car and it's moved up to about 9.5 mpg.

It depends a lot on axle ratio and tire size, but I'm at around 17 mpg around town (some city, some highway). On a long distance trip, all highway, sticking to 65-70 mph, I was up to a bit over 19 mpg.

Oh, let me add, that's with burning E10, which is just about the only gas sold around here anymore.

I can't speak about the wrangler (yet), but with my XK the "city" mileage is bad...like around 12 mpg bad. Accelerating kills your mpg and mine registers mid/low single digits while accelerating.

I would expect (as mine did) as you add miles, especially highway miles with cruise engaged, that you will see it steadily increase. From those I know who have one, expect to see around 18-19 combined...if you are primarily "city" driving it will be closer to 16.

I think it depends on your gearing first, then also what kinda of miles are they? Highway or city/intown driving... Then also have to consider tires and weight as well...

Just double checking, if it has the Manual 6-spd Trans, it automatically comes with 4:10 gears, right? Even though it is not listed on the window sticker.

I think most folks see somewhere in the high teens, with significant variations based on driving conditions and the impatience of the operator.

Your initial indication of 3-4 probably is the result of idling during some inspection process. I've seen vehicles being inspected or worked on that were left idling for a significant time (15 minutes or more), and that'll run the average down really bad.

If you want to see what you're really getting, fill it up, reset the averages, and see what you get going forward. You just don't have any insight regarding what happened before you took possession, so you're getting meaningless info from that readout at the moment.

Yeah, Rubicon's with Stick come standard w/4.10's.

Though it's weird it's not listed on the sticker.

EDIT: I just checked a couple 15's in transit to dealer lots and sure enough all of them with 6-speed do not list the 4.10's...very odd.

Pat when you said a special edition with larger tires are we talking like 35" or something along the lines of the 10th anniversary?

Would this special model have any axle modifications to support the larger tires? I know if you had any information you'd tell us but is the eta for this model soon or next year? If I were to order a new jeep this month should I wait a little?

Could this be the Rubicon X you have listed in the first post?

Wait, there is going to be a new Rubicon X for 2015, that's not associated with either the 2014 Rubicon X nor the 2015 Rubicon Hard Rock?

Is there still going to be that 2015 Sahara X too?

Yea a few posts back Milous said he doesn't know much about it but it opens up on September 8. Also its in the main post now.

He's not sure if it will replace the HRR or if its something else.

I'm guessing its something else because Pat said there will be a couple special editions this year and one might have a 2-3" Mopar lift and larger tires.

Milous,

Would it be useful to add the points about DM8 and all the stuff surrounding 3.73 vs 4.10 gears on the first page?
It seems to get asked a lot and is causing people a lot of heartburn as they order.
