I sold my last TJ to get a small truck as I was doing a lot of cross country traveling with my motorcycle(s) in tow and the TJ wasn't too good with a 6x12 open trailer behind it. On my last trip to California 2 years ago I came up Berdoo Canyon Rd into Joshua Tree NP and stopped at the ranger station on the way out to get some water. The ranger said "you came up Berdoo in THAT?" Yup. (2006 Chevy Colorado crew cab with factory running boards and the stock non-Z71 suspension). I took it back down the same road 2 days later without issues and then over what I would call a genuine "Jeep trail" in the same area the next week which was pretty foolish as the truck was juuuuust able to make it without dropping down a cliff.

I'm planning on spending a lot of time solo traveling around the Southwest next year without a bike so the JK it is. No rock crawling, but remote driving. I considered a JKU to be able to sleep in it but I'm a short wheelbase guy at heart and at 6'3" and after reading a billion 'over landing' articles I said to myself "you know you aren't going to sleep in the Jeep" so the JK it is.

I've had hard and soft tops and have heard great things about the sound levels of the new soft tops so I'm sticking with that. I think having the front hardtop panels would be cool but not "dual roof option" money cool. We get over 100" of snow here and I never had an issue with it and soft tops........ other than that Xmas morning that I was in a hurry and without thinking I flopped the rear window up onto the roof in 10 degree weather. But then I was able to buy tinted replacement windows so it all worked out. (I once fit a full sized washing machine in the back of my TJ!)
IF you're going to be wheeling in the southwest, I would double think the soft top, the dust/dirt out here is so fine it gets in through the soft top. 99% of JK's are hardtop out here because of the dust, grit, and sun lol.

Just an example...

re: 2015 Wrangler JK Information Thread

I'm not concerned about that and plan to have the top open/down/windowless as much as possible. The upgraded top, which looks like a dust magnet to me, is supposed to be better at not collecting dust or looking crappy from what I gather. I haven't decided if it is worth the money yet. (tinted windows are a must) Plus I plan on traveling solo, not in groups.

I spent my whole 6 years in the Marines (minus 6 months in Japan) eating either CA or middle eastern dust driving Amtrac's (amphibious tank type thing) plus I ride motorcycles and have been caught in sandstorms out there with nothing but an open face helmet/bandana/sunglasses. If the hard top was more modular like I've seen some guy from here in NY (that is all over the Jeep forum world) is making I would consider it but my main point in having the Jeep is 4x4 followed by the drop top. I have removed TJ hardtops, full sized truck bed caps and even a K5 top alone and I can't justify the $ for the dual top option. For security (which is a much bigger concern across the SW as opposed to western NY) sure, but that is why I have insurance.

Appreciate the tip though.

(I'll shut up now, I'm bogarting this thread)

Wow, it's incredible how much Tank changes in the light. It's a lot like Anvil in that respect.

The 2015 Wrangler Brochure looks great, but we need more beauty shots of Sunset Orange. The beach photo made it look very red, but the trail shot on page 19 was legit, just too far away from the camera man.

Maybe we need a support group for those of us unable to make up our minds. You won't catch me saying anything bad about the MCS, but I've been not-seen by too many bigguns lately. Hopefully a bright yellow JK is more obvious.

Just to be contrary, the brochure makes me feel better about Baja. (Oso, there's a sort-of Baja/black fender image pretend mockup thingy on p.14.)

Agree with you about Tank. "Classic" is the word that comes to mind.

I think 2015 is a "good color" year - something for everyone.

The brochure makes Baja look more like Short Bus again, I was hoping for this again but hey.

My money is going on Tank sigh.

I think Dozer looked more like a bus, which is the color of my 2012. School buses have a slight hint of orange and are not straight yellow.

I suggest you talk to Tom V. at Roseville Chrysler Jeep. Best vehicle purchase I've had with my 2014 Hydro Blue Willys Wheeler. I used the Tread Lightly discount by the way. Tell him I sent you if you like.
