No shame there, you need to do what you need to do in order to get your paycheck!

No. And no mention of it anywhere, not in the order system or order guides, also not mentioned in the 2015 brochure.

What makes the Rubicon smother than the Sahara?

The suspension. The sway in corners isn't as rigid, bumps/potholes are not nearly as "jarring".. It's just a flat out better ride. I'm in AK, so that makes a difference to me.

When you say "wheel the rubicon", what do you mean?

Also, what is sleevin and gusseting the axels?

Sorry, I'm not in the know about this stuff.

Off-road, trail riding, little rock crawling, all dat stuff. Rubi comes "prepped".

I'm sure the bigger tires and Rubicon shocks add comfort on rougher roads.

Wheeling, as in off roading. Sleeves and gussets are a way of reinforcing the axles, they're welded into place.

I think there was maybe a typo there. I've "wheeled" my 2004 Rubicon for years (just a couple times a year) on stock D44s with no issues. I assume it was wheel the Sahara- the D30 would be a bit weaker and the axle tubes may need some reinforcement to be up to the job. ...It is possible to break a D44 as well, but you gotta use the loud pedal a lot and do a bunch of "bounce" moves to get up over an obstacle or just have a "wrong place wrong time" kind of issue with stock power in a Jeep (especially the old 4.0L i6). Perhaps more folks are breaking factory axles with the Pentastar 3.6L v6, but I bet a nice smooth approach wherever it is possible would leave the D44s in a current Rubicon in the desired # of pieces. Now if you went to AEV and say "drop the HEMI in my Rubicon", then all bets are off.

Oso
Thanks. Got it now. I thought he was saying you had to sleeve and gusset the Rubi but he meant the Sahara.

You have to sleeve and gusset the JK 44's They tend to bend very easily.

re: 2015 Wrangler JK Information Thread

Rubicon has Dana 44 front axle while the Sport/Sahara have a Dana 30 front axle. However the main difference between the stock dana 44 and 30 is the differential housing. The weak points are the axle tubes and the C's and are the same between the two.

Based on how you drive your jeep and what size of tire you go with will determine if you need to beef up your axle with sleeve's or gussets. If your only reason to get a Rubicon over sport/sahara is because of the dana 44 then I would save the money and get a sport/sahara. Invest the saved money in an aftermarket dana 44 that will be stronger than the stock one. If you are wanting the gearing, lockers, and disconnects then Rubicon is a good choice.

Based on your mechanical skill or friends who work for beer you may be able to buy a Sport and build it up to Rubicon level or higher for the same price as the Rubicon.
