re: 2015 Wrangler JK Information Thread

Pat--thanks for posting the pics. I have a couple of questions (now serious since I ordered my copper brown JKUR yesterday). That Sahara looks like it is sitting higher than 2"--I assume that it needs to "settle"? (This matters to me because I have slightly less than 4" of clearance in my garage as measure with my '07 JKUS with Rubi take off rims and tires.) Also, are the Fox shocks adjustable? Lastly, did you install the driveshaft as well? Thanks.

Nice pics! It does look a little odd with those tires. Maybe the same size but a more aggressive tread pattern would look better, like on the Rubicon or Willys?

Pat...I just looked at the Mopar Accessories catalog...and found some language at the bottom about putting on any Mopar Performance parts.

http://www.mopar.com/assets/pdf/perf...ce_Catalog.pdf

There are several legal notices at the bottom of this catalog that would appear to jeopardize the rest of the parts covered by the original Jeep warranty.

1) Mechanical and/or electronic performance parts listed in this cataog cannot be on vehicles used on public streets or highways.

2) No warranty on any Moper Performance parts

3) The addition of performance parts does not by itself void a vehicle’s warranty. However, added performance parts (parts not originally suppliedon the vehicle from the factory) are not covered by the vehicle’s warranty, and any failure that they may cause is not covered by the vehicle’s warranty.

Without a degree in Engineering, which I have, how does one prove to Chrysler that an added Moper performance suspension part did not contribute to the failure of another component failure, such as a bearing or other suspension component?

Geep... it also states, "Mopar Performance Parts with part numbers beginning with “P” are sold “as-is” without warranty coverage of any kind by Mopar unless otherwise noted."

It is noted in the catalog that the 2 and 3 inch lift kits are backed by a Mopar Warranty. With that language, your concern in item #3 shouldn't be an issue.

Edit...

Pat should be able to confirm that for you.

re: 2015 Wrangler JK Information Thread

This is where finding the right dealerahip to work with matters most. Remember that Chrysler/Jeep/Fiat pay for warranty repairs, but a foolish Jeep owner might pay for unneeded repairs without inspecting the broken parts later.... Some dealers want every penny they can get out of customer today and don't want to mess with warranty claims. Other dealers want the customer relationship and will do what it takes to advocate for the Jeep owner when it comes to repairs.

I recently had an oil leak on my 14. One dealer tried to convince me that the clutch had failed, causing the rear main seal to fail and wouldn't repair the clutch under warranty...claiming it would cost me $1400-1700 because I took the Jeep off-road. As I have babied a failing clutch for over 50,000 miles on an old Honda, I know what a bad clutch feels like...mine was fine. Took it to the dealer 3 hours away that I buy my Jeeps from, had everything patched up and leak free a day later. Clutch slave cylinder was replaced under warranty, along with an oil-pan gasket that was damaged on installation by the previous dealer and was dumping oil on my driveway.

Get in touch with the local Jeep clubs and find out which dealer will have your back when needed. Saving yourself $300 on purchase MIGHT not be worth it in the long run...

I agree...but the problem is that there are two separate paragraphs about this issue.

The first one says:

No Parts Warranty – “As Is ”
Mopar Performance parts are sold “as is” unless otherwise noted.
This means that parts sold by Mopar Performance carry no warranty
whatsoever. Implied warranties, such as warranties of merchantability,
are excluded. (An implied warranty of merchantability means that the
part is reasonably fit for the general purpose for which it was sold.) The
entire risk as to quality and performance of such parts is with the buyer.
Should such parts prove defective following their purchase, the buyer and
not the manufacturer, distributor or retailer, assumes the entire cost of all
necessary servicing or repair. Chrysler, Jeep®, Dodge and Ram vehicle and
parts warranties are voided if the vehicle or parts are used for competition.
The addition of performance parts does not by itself void a vehicle’s
warranty. However, added performance parts (parts not originally supplied
on the vehicle from the factory) are not covered by the vehicle’s warranty,
and any failure that they may cause is not covered by the vehicle’s warranty.

The second one says this:

Additional Performance Information
Mopar Performance Crate Engine Assemblies – Crate engine assemblies
are warranted for “parts only” “as delivered” against defects in materials
or workmanship for 90 days from the date of purchase. The following
covered components for Performance Engine Assemblies, which prove to
be defective in materials or workmanship, will be replaced on an exchange
basis for 90 days: cylinder blocks and all internal parts; cylinder head
assemblies; intake manifold; core plugs; valve covers; oil pan; timing gear
and/or chain and cover; water pump; gasket and seals.
Mopar Performance Parts with part numbers beginning with “P” are sold
“as-is” without warranty coverage of any kind by Mopar unless
otherwise noted.

WRT the 2" and 3" lift kits, it only states:

Backed by Mopar® warranty.

But it doesn't say specifically what this warranty is.

re: 2015 Wrangler JK Information Thread

This is the key to their legaleese... Mopar Performance parts are sold “as is” unless otherwise noted.

The first item is describing what the risks are with "as is" parts and who's liable if they fail. The second item deals specifically with crate engines... and like the first item, it also includes the general performance and "P" part number "as is" disclaimer that we're talking about here.

Since it specifically states that the 2 and 3 inch lift (not the 4 inch) are backed by a Mopar Warranty it negates what's being stated as sold "as is" in your first item.

In this case I believe the lift kits would be covered under the Mopar Basic Limited Warranty as long as an authorized Chrysler Group dealership is doing the install.

Pat should be able to confirm that one way or the other.
