Since it specifically states that the 2 and 3 inch lift (not the 4 inch) are backed by a Mopar Warranty it negates what's being stated as "sold as is."

In this case I believe the lift kits would be covered under the Mopar Basic Limited Warranty as long as an authorized Chrysler Group dealership is doing the install.

Pat should be able to confirm that one way or the other.
Again.....I can only tell you what is printed in black and white in the Mopar performance catalog.

The addition of performance parts does not by itself void a vehicle’s warranty.

However, added performance parts (parts not originally supplied on the vehicle from the factory) are not covered by the vehicle’s warranty, and any failure that they may cause is not covered by the vehicle’s warranty

I am not an attorney, but me thinks this caveat is pretty clear.

If you add a Mopar performance lift kit...it may be covered by its own Mopar warranty, but not the vehicle warranty...

If you add a Mopar lift kit...and something else related to the suspension breaks...it may not be covered by the vehicle warranty

The "Mopar" warranty is not the "vehicle" warranty.

Geep, with all due respect... as an engineer, I think you're over analyzing this. You're taking these as standalone statements and not reading them in the context in which they're being used.

We agree that it states the kits are covered by a Mopar warranty, right? Since there is no explanation of what the kit warranty specifically consists of (aka... "unless otherwise noted") then it should be considered to be what's described under the Mopar Basic Limited Warranty at the very beginning of the warranty section.

Edited to add... the Mopar warranty IS the vehicle warranty if the stated conditions are met under the Mopar Basic Limited Warranty.

I hope you are right...

I would very much like to get the lift kit shown in the 2015 catalog eventually installed on my just ordered WJKU.

But not if it voids other parts of my vehicle's standard warranty, and especially not if it voids the lifetime warranty I was planning to purchase.

I understand your concerns about it. I think I'm right but let's get Pat to confirm it to your satisfaction. You should be able to enjoy what you're purchasing, not worrying about it.

I'll reiterate, the Dealer Service Department can make a bigger difference than the fine print of the warranty.

Only if they're willing to step outside the parameters of the warranty and cover it themselves. Not too many are willing to take on that kind of liability.

But, they may help you out. For example, needed parts at cost, splitting labor, etc. I just purchased my third Jeep from the same dealer, and I have NEVER used there service department (for a variety of reasons that have nothing to do with it). But I am known to most of the sales staff, and I hope (don't know, but hope) that this would help if there was a dicey "I'd like tho covered" request. Having said that, both of my previous Jeeps never needed anything but routine service.

Well, they're the ones that create the logs for your Jeep's Maintenance record that gets filed with Chrysler. They can screw you over by declaring the Jeep heavily modified and abused or they can call light mods, light mods and mild off-roading "normal use"....find the right dealer early on and understand that when your Jeep has turned into a KOH buggy, that it's probably not covered.

The "Mopar" warranty is not the "vehicle" warranty.

^This is how I've always seen it as well, and this is how it was explained to me. Jeep does not cover parts replaced after it leaves the factory. That's right in the warranty book we all get with our new Jeeps.

Anything that may prematurely wears out or breaks due to the lift kit may not be covered. Just like putting 40 inch tires on a dana 30 front axle. If the axle snaps, chances are the larger tires are to blame. This does not void your full warranty. Meaning your radio breaking will still be repaired under warranty, your power windows and locks will be covered and the list goes on and on.

Getting something in writing will be difficult, since no one will go on record telling us one way or the other. The other day I emailed our rep for extended service contracts asking if we can sell an extended warranty on a Jeep with a 4 inch lift. Over the phone they said nothing over a 2.5 inch lift. In writing..well I'm still waiting.

Maybe we have someone with a law degree here who can give their $.02
IMO, if the modification you do puts undue stress on another component that is related and it breaks, you might be paying for the repair yourself. At my store, we are very mod friendly, and have yet to have an issue.
I think we will see this new 2 inch lift kit come with a longer warranty. I think that is part of the reason they added the front drive shaft.

It's the fine print that I am worried about....

You know what they say about reading the fine print...

Ya piss off a local dealer...and don't give them a good rating on their service...and then suddenly you get flagged...whether its legit or not.

Basically, that's what I said above. Not many are willing to do so. The good ones will try to help you out in the interests of satisfying and keeping a customer. But one shouldn't hang their hat on that happening.

re: 2015 Wrangler JK Information Thread

The local dealer pissed me off, got a scathing review and I could care less if they get me black listed from the entire Indianapolis area. I have a dealer I trust and a retired (From Chrysler management) Father-in-law with a truck and a trailer and nothing better to do with his time. If I have to drive 3 hours each way for warranty work, I'm ok with that...road trips are fun. And one of my favorite micro-breweries is just 20 minutes from the dealer.
