An oxymoron indeed. It has become quite common in the past few years. It's a way to raise the price of the vehicle and yet still be able to advertise it at a lower starting price. Since it's listed as "optional" it can be considered as "temporary", and in some cases the requirement will go away later on in the model year. Sometimes it has to do with the way parts are packaged/assembled for the vehicle builds, making it "necessary" to require a certain part.

An extreme case of this was for the all-new 2012 Grand Cherokee SRT. It had an advertised base MSRP price of $54,470, yet the cheapest you could buy one for was $61,785. There were $6,490 worth of REQUIRED options (!!!).

Will the red leather seating option most likely be offered during the 2015 sales launch in September?

It also makes the buyer be more aware that they have the option/feature.

For example, if they made the 4.10 rear a required option on Rubicons with the manual trans, it would probably curtail the endless posts from people asking "do I have 4.10's?". People tend to remember what they just paid $495 to get.

They accepted my reasonable priceing offer which seems fair since I did most all the work. I built a spreadsheet with the base price, invoice, msrp, added it all up and told them what I wanted to pay (a reasonable % below invoice). All done over email and signing papers tomorrow! If it helps, I'll share the sheet with anyone that wants to use it. Starts with based Unlimited Rubicon, adds the X package and added options. Easy to delete items you don't want, etc.

I would love to get a copy of this if possible. Please email ray.hodges82@yahoo.com. Thanks in advance!

Well crap that kind of blows my allotted budget, it may not be that much money but for something I really don't want that sucks.

I've always felt the same way about the Sirius radio. Only time I've used it was when I climbed into the Jeep at delivery and it was already turned on. Couldn't get Bluetooth without it....
