2016 JKURHR Backup Camera

Hi All! I am looking for a rear mounted backup camera for my 2016 JKURHR.

Yes, i could search the internet all day long, but still would not have a clue what to purchase. I have the 430N Nav unit and will most likely have my dealer do the install.

From what i've seen in the forums, the dealer will need to flash the 430N unit. I'm assuming after the 430N is flashed, i will not lose any of the functions of the 430N?

2016 JKURHR Backup Camera

AEV has a system that either integrates with the OEM radio:

"Customers with a factory navigation system will appreciate the seamless camera integration that utilizes the OE display screen as a monitor when the vehicle is shifted into reverse. This kit includes a programming module that temporarily plugs into the JK Wrangler's OBDII port to program the radio, eliminating the need to take the vehicle to a dealer for activation."

or for those without nav you can use an integrated rearview mirror/monitor.

Didn't know for sure as I thought they were listed as separate line items on the window sticker of my JK350.

Check out WranglerForums.com. Do a search on that site, and you'll find several good threads dealing with cameras. You'll find all sorts of different setups people have come up with, many including pictures of their results.

There are many ways to approach this. Some want the cheapest possible cost. Others want the most features. Some want the easiest mounting. Others want the cleanest mounting.

Which is right for you, is something you will need to decide for yourself. Personally, I went with a full feature camera (multiple views, split screen, adjustable guide lines, image distortion correction, etc), and I made my own custom mounting bracket that inserts the camera between the top-most "spokes" on the rear spare wheel.

Yes, your dealer needs to enable the "XAC" option on your vehicle. That enables the existing rear camera input in the back of your 430N, and will automatically activate the display from that camera, whenever you shift into reverse.

"XAC" doesn't affect anything else.

Re: 2016 JKURHR Backup Camera

I would like one like you have, but it would need to be a dealer install. Can you provide me with the link so i can take a look at it?

TIA

Re: 2016 JKURHR Backup Camera

What WaltA said ^^ I installed one using the Wranglerforum tutorial and it cost me around $150 total ( including dealer flash for $80) and it looked like a factory install. My local dealership bugged me for a parts list so they could do it.

I think the AEV is ridiculously priced and it looks like an aftermarket add-on.

If I was to do it again though I would buy the Nav-TV unit which is a lot more versatile. If I'm not mistaken (do your research) you can have multiple cameras and you can view them while driving.

If you don't mind me asking... What camera did you end up going with? I'm not a big fan of the AEV solution, but I would like a quality camera.

I used a Kenwood CMOS310.

I adjusted the lines so that they match up with the parking space lines just like this:

Here's an example of one of its split screens (straight down & straight back), which is helpful when attaching a trailer.

Are you using this camera with the 430N? Or do you have to have an aftermarket head unit that is compatible with this camera to control all the adjustable features.
