2016 Rubicon Steering Column Rattle

My 2016 Rubicon Hard Rock with 9,000 miles, has developed a "rattle" which seems to be coming from the mid to lower area of the steering column enclosed portion (signal lever, key, etc.) or lower portion of the instrument cluster. Only happens when going over very rough roads or a severe bump. I've tried sticking my hands everywhere while it's happening to try and isolate where it's coming from, but have had no luck. Brought it to the dealer, they test drove it, confirmed the noise, but said it "could be so many things", they chose to go no further. Very frustrating on a $48k vehicle.

Anyone else experience anything like this or have any suggestions how my best way to proceed would be? Can't live with this for years. It's really sapping all the driving pleasure out of the vehicle for me!

My 2013 just started doing this at 28000 miles. Same here, makes me want to dump it. I bought a scope to try and look around in there.. couldn't find anything obvious. It sounds like its coming from inside the instrument cluster. I think its enclosed..

If your dealer wasn't willing to tear it apart, it doesn't say much for Jeep warranty work. I wish I had a service manual...

There's a short thread on this over on WF..

They don't need to drive it to replicate. Make a fist, then pound lightly on the top right-side edge of the horn cover with the palm of your fist...

You'll hear it...

How about my Jeep? 2013 JKUR 10th Anniversary...

This is unfortunate, not a normal rattle... it sounds like something has come loose in the 10A instrument cluster.

Just as a test, secure your brake pedal and go for a drive... see if the rattle disappears. The OP on wrangler forums fixed his... said the brake pedal has more play than his other Jeep.

Better than tearing the dash apart and finding nothing...

OMG!!! After going crazy, bringing the car to a dealer who heard the rattle and had no luck diagnosing / trouble-shooting it, I tried placing my foot under the brake pedal and pulled it toward me with just slight pressure while going over large bumps, and presto.....THE RATTLE DISAPPEARED!!

Now that I know what it is, will try going back to have the dealer correct the problem!!

Thanks for the tip!!

Yeah.. well, I'm not so lucky. Securing the pedal didn't stop the rattle for me.

My rattle is in the dash...
