Re: 2016 Wrangler Information

2.8 crd is not compatible with Euro 6 norm, So no more diesel Wrangler in Europe.

I hope for a new motor for 2016 MY Euro model !

Solid axles is favorable news. Anyone who is wishing for IFS needs to have their head examined, or just buy a Grand cherokee or Renegade.

2017 Wrangler Information

This thread has a wrong name, it should be 2017, or maybe Jeep will skip a year and this thread is 2018 Wrangler Information. Or maybe call it Next Generation Wrangler?

Recent reports are that the actual 2016 Wrangler will be a refreshed JK, celebrating Jeep's 75th anniversary, so I expect a decal model with different exterior and interior colors. Cool new stuff would be wonderful, but more likely Jeep will hold that back until the next-generation model.

Once upon a time, this thread had a correct name. Chrysler/Jeep once predicted they'd have a next-generation Wrangler launched for 2016, but now it's clear the project schedule is extended by a year or more. For instance, this week's news indicates uncertainty whether the next generation will be built in Toledo (probably). But if they could build the new assembly line elsewhere, perhaps the next Wrangler won't have much in common with JK. And if they haven't even started building the new line, it won't be used for 2016 models. Also there's lots of random news about what might be changed (steel to aluminum) and what might not (solid axles).

While I'm simply reporting what I glean from AllPar and other sources, it seems definite that 2016 model year will still be JK. If anyone has new clarifying (or contrary facts), please share it.

OK, but will it or won't it have the updated direct-injection 3.6?

From what I read and heard the 2016 Wrangler won't have DI, but the GC will. It made a bit of sense to me because the GC will be out after the Wrangler. I wouldn't want to be messing with the first year of DI from Chrysler.-Rockydee.

Re: 2016 Wrangler Information

Today, Car and Driver reports on statements by Jeep CEO Mike Manley, notably that the next generation Wrangler will be body-on-frame, and released as 2017 model year.

So, 2016 will be tweaks on 2015, the last of JK line.

What little official info coming from Jeep, as the new Wrangler will be coming out around the middle of the 2017 calendar year, as a 2018 model.

I can see the parallel with the redesigned Mustang. The press was guessing that it would be out for 2013, and everyone called it the "2013 Mustang", still referring to it as the "2013 Mustang" even when it was officially introduced by Ford as the 2015 Mustang.

Unless Mike Manley has made multiple and different public statements, Manley has also said that it will be released during the middle of the 2017 calendar year as a 2018 model. Such was backed up with a Jeep model release plan chart showing the new Wrangler in the middle of 2017 calendar year.

A lot of people in the press don't seem to grasp the difference between calendar years and model years.

Re: 2016 Wrangler Information

Yes discussions about the next generation Wrangler should be in a correctly title thread... maybe Aluminum Jeep Discussion or Beer Can Wrangler.

I'd still like to know what the plans are for a special edition 75th JK. I think they did a great job with the 10A Rubicon and it introduced some useful new parts that are now part of the Rubicon Hard Rocks etc...

Re: 2016 Wrangler Information

I remember the "storm" of 2003 or whenever, I was "stuck" on top of Queen Anne hill, so sorry I couldn't go to work downtown that day!!!

Also, contemplate driving a Saab 900 turbo in the drizzle in rush hour traffic UP Cherry St. That was nuts--I am still surprised I never rolled back into anybody.

I live in SF now, seriously way easier hill driving than Seattle. Here you can at least plan a route around the really steep ones if you don't want to replace your clutch!
