Hi Everybody! Completely new to the Garage. I don't own a Jeep yet, but can't wait until I do! I'm being completely un-American and waiting a little longer for the budget to be ready for the purchase.:D. Anyway, my plan is to buy sometime in Q3/Q4 2015, which means I am going to be buying either a 2015 or 2016 model. I'm absolutely going with an Unlimited, but not sure about the model just yet (either a Sport or maybe a Willys with some goodies added or just going straight for the Rubicon).

Long story short....does anybody have any rumors, etc regarding what is going to be new/different with the 2016 vs 2015 model?

Thanks from a future Jeep owner in GA.

Paint colors. Except for PCP, no one really cares enough to start rumors for those. :D

I am sure that Milous or Pat will start a thread as soon as details like that are known.

Looks like the 2015 Info thread went live in late April of last year so I figure mid to late April you'll start seeing some info on the 2016 come out.

I love my 2014 Granite Unlimited Rubi X but I am also already preparing myself for possibly buying a 2016 towards the end of their order window if/when I start seeing some ideas of where the 2017 redesign is going and I don't like it.

With a complete redesign planned for 2017, I wouldn't expect too much. Wouldn't make much sense to spend too much time engineering new stuff, or to have to keep all of those new parts in inventory, for just 1 model year. Perhaps they'll throw some 'not new, but, new to Wrangler' stuff, but, doubt there will be a bunch of bleeding edge stuff.

#5 ·
Just to note, the redesign will probably be a 2018 model year, being it will be coming out in the middle of the 2017 calendar year. So, the 2017 model year Wrangler will still be the current JK.

Yeah..I've seen 2017 as definitive and 2018 as definitive, so, I guess we'll see. Regardless, my theory above still applies. Doubt they would have too much hip new cool stuff and only have it on for 2 years and then have to keep those part in inventory for however it is they have to keep them.

Thanks for the responses. Sounds like I may have jumped the gun a little. I'll sit tight and wait for Milous or Pat to start the "official" thread. Took an Anvil Rubicon for a test drive...confirms that I want one for sure. It was an automatic, so I still need to take another drive to confirm that I do truly want the manual transmission (too bad the dealership never seems to have any JKU's with manuals to test drive!!).

See how I used JKU in my post rather than typing JK unlimited? Wow...I am really proud of myself.

Thanks again.

Holy crap do I agree with that. I never stall out or have trouble on hills even while using vehicles with HSA; but while driving a customer's Wrangler to them the other day, I stalled SOOO bad with the HSA. Given how many I've driven, and that being the first and only one with it on, I guess a lot of owners don't like it either.

PS: Just read a post from Milous, apparently its calendar year oriented, not model year. So, we'll see the 75th in "Spring/Summer 2016, (as a) 2017 model year."[/QUOTE]

They built 70th Anniversary Edition vehicles in the 2011 MY.
Counting on my fingers I'd say 75th AEs will be on 2016 MY platforms. Now, they might be built as later in the MY so that they hit the road in CY 2016.
Anyway I just wondering out loud.

Correct. We had a 65th anniversary Commander that was a 2006 model year. So the 2016 Wrangler should be badged 75th.

Also, the same CEO that said 2018 has also recently said 2017 on record. So nobody knows exactly when it'll be out. But...the mayor of Toledo has been working hard to keep production there and he just suffered a heart attack apparently so who knows if that will play into the time frame of things or not.

Bottom line is that the 2016 Wrangler will have color changes here and there and a few package changes. That's about it.

In 2016, about all that you will see is some color changes.
2017 will have the aluminum Body on Frame.
There will be a new Vendor building the steering linkage, along with a Aluminum Steering gear box.
The solid axle will still be retained for 2017.

Chrysler/Jeeps challenge, is to comply with the FEDS, fuel economy mandate...

I wouldn't expect any major changes until the entirely new Wrangler comes out in 2017 as a 2018. Jeep isn't going to spend heavy amounts of R&D for just one product year on an existing model that sells like crazy. You might see some new colors and a coupe different versions of existing models, but that's about it. Mostly the usual year-to-year changes.

I have some hopes for a 75th Anniversary. The Rubicon 10A introduced some worthy components (the basis of the current "Hard Rock" as a matter of fact) and I thought the red leather with Anvil or Billet Silver was a striking combination.
Its probably way late in the planning cycle for Jeep and I haven't seen them come on the websites asking for design inspiration (which I think would be a nod to the Jeep faithful) but here goes my two worthless cents.

The 2 door wrangler should be a big nod to the MB. 1/2 doors. Rich OD canvas tops. Anvil is close to the blue/gray the Navy liked in WWII. An OD for the Army / USMC / Army Air Corps. Dark blue for some models the USAF had when it came into being in the late 40s. A flat fender design, steel bumpers, some kind of flat SE wheel that looks like the original (maybe similar to the modern overland type used on those rigs)... OD color heavy duty fabric seats that has rich tactile texture to them. I guess the current Willys editions are close to that. Special order lettering if you wish. (They started custom terrain inspired hood decals last year).

Not wishing for much there, eh? How about a $75,000 version that includes a Hemi and the aftermarket Dana 60s?

It will still retain the solid axles, so no IFS......:(

They are obviously reducing weight, to meet the Feds mandates

I thought solid axles would be welcome news... I like them.

Yeah, Jeep has to meet CAFE standards which are rapidly tightening. While every new model Jeep introduces gets a flurry of B!@#$ blogging session from "purist"... those smaller fuel efficient Jeeps are the reason they can even entertain a next generation Wrangler.

If 2016 remains pretty much the same as 2015 w/o no PUG engine update and the NAG trans it might be the last good year for the Wrangler for a while. Once they start making first year changes i sit on the sidelines and let other buyers do the testin of the new stuff, and then read about it on the boards. First year Pstar fiat multi-air direct injection sounds like a headache to me. Change is great, just as long as it isn't the first year of change.

I heard the GC would get the PUG engine before the Wrangler, so those guys will do the tesin first, if i heard right.-Rockydee.

Any idea what the Direct injection will add to the 3.6 for increase in HP and Tourque?

You forgot the "official use only" beer bottle opener (its just under the passenger's side A pillar).

BTW, its based off a 4-door Unlimited, not a 2 door. :D

2017 Wrangler Information

This thread has a wrong name, it should be 2017, or maybe Jeep will skip a year and this thread is 2018 Wrangler Information. Or maybe call it Next Generation Wrangler?

Recent reports are that the actual 2016 Wrangler will be a refreshed JK, celebrating Jeep's 75th anniversary, so I expect a decal model with different exterior and interior colors. Cool new stuff would be wonderful, but more likely Jeep will hold that back until the next-generation model.

Once upon a time, this thread had a correct name. Chrysler/Jeep once predicted they'd have a next-generation Wrangler launched for 2016, but now it's clear the project schedule is extended by a year or more. For instance, this week's news indicates uncertainty whether the next generation will be built in Toledo (probably). But if they could build the new assembly line elsewhere, perhaps the next Wrangler won't have much in common with JK. And if they haven't even started building the new line, it won't be used for 2016 models. Also there's lots of random news about what might be changed (steel to aluminum) and what might not (solid axles).

While I'm simply reporting what I glean from AllPar and other sources, it seems definite that 2016 model year will still be JK. If anyone has new clarifying (or contrary facts), please share it.

What little official info coming from Jeep, as the new Wrangler will be coming out around the middle of the 2017 calendar year, as a 2018 model.

I can see the parallel with the redesigned Mustang. The press was guessing that it would be out for 2013, and everyone called it the "2013 Mustang", still referring to it as the "2013 Mustang" even when it was officially introduced by Ford as the 2015 Mustang.

Today, Car and Driver reports on statements by Jeep CEO Mike Manley, notably that the next generation Wrangler will be body-on-frame, and released as 2017 model year.

So, 2016 will be tweaks on 2015, the last of JK line.
Unless Mike Manley has made multiple and different public statements, Manley has also said that it will be released during the middle of the 2017 calendar year as a 2018 model. Such was backed up with a Jeep model release plan chart showing the new Wrangler in the middle of 2017 calendar year.

A lot of people in the press don't seem to grasp the difference between calendar years and model years.

Yes discussions about the next generation Wrangler should be in a correctly title thread... maybe Aluminum Jeep Discussion or Beer Can Wrangler.

I'd still like to know what the plans are for a special edition 75th JK. I think they did a great job with the 10A Rubicon and it introduced some useful new parts that are now part of the Rubicon Hard Rocks etc...
