Is your dealership adding that in? They also couldn't do the black top no matter which way we screwed around with it. So I am wondering - maybe because it is not adding the package is why we are not able to get the black top. (it shows the x package but no price is showing up) I am wondering if we have to wait for production to start or maybe it is a fluke in the system that is not adding the X package in & therefore the black top is not added either. (unless it is adding the package for you guys & it is just my dealerships that are not able to do it).
When I originally went into get it built, we ran it two ways - as a 2-door(P72) 23X and 23G. On October 12th, the P72-23X was going through, and it was adding the additional Back Country pricing. As of last week, the P72-23X was not coming up with a price, and the current order guide has the X no longer showing for the two-door. The P72-23G always went through, and always enabled the black hard top and dual top option. The P72-23X would never get past the choose a Top screen (forget the actual words) and would only move on with the body color hard top (choosing the black hard top would cause a pop up to say not valid, choose either MX1 or MX3 (Body Color or Black)), but only by choosing the body color would it move on. Tried building the P72-23X in Purple and Hydo - either color would only let the Body Color top go through. At this point, we can't build a P72-23X - Maybe they ran out of allocation. We were able to order a P72-23G in Purple, and it even had a VON assigned, but when it went into D1, the color changed to Black - Not a good situation. That was my experience with two dealers (Thanks to this site, I had all the order codes, so I was able to walk them through the ordering system and they even let me see the screen as they did it, so I am fairly certain at the different times I tried it, the ordering system was doing what it said it was - even if it was programmed or set up incorrectly).

Thanks - maybe it is something with my dealer not being able to calculate then. It wouldn't even let us add the purple on so had to try it with hydro blue. He said he would keep messing with it & would call me as soon as he is able to get it to calculate with the package price & the purple. I may just have to get a soft top for now since I will be paying to add the black one later on - no point in paying for the color & then turning around to buy a black one later. Good luck with your ordering - hopefully everything gets resolved on this edition soon.

Nope, right Walt. My point was that just because the Back Country is Sahara based does not necessarily mean you are getting a body colored hard top as the Sahara is available with both black and body colored tops (and yes, the Sunrider soft top is standard) seems as thpugh its all up in the air. Until FCA straightens this out we really won't know for sure. Crazy that potential customers have to go through these ordeals when it comes to ordering. It sounds to me as though all the members here have more knowledge on these matters than the salesmen they are dealing with. Crazy.
And also, as far as the Black Bear goes, going by the Customer Preferred Code Guide... the BB comes with the black premium soft top as standard equipment. The black 3 piece and body color 3pc freedom tops are both optional. Maybe things have changed on this also?... like I said, crazy.
Perhaps Milous can help us straighten this out?

re: 2016 Wrangler JK Information Thread

The thing that blows me away is the pricing.

The pricing goes up EVERY year on the JK. The options pricing also goes up.

In 2012 when I got mine new: 3.73 gear upgrade was $95. Now it's $595! Max tow package was $300. Now it's $800! Everything is going ballistic on the pricing sheet. The money vs. what you get for it ratio is getting out of hand.

Personally I think it's starting to finally become wise to look at the used market. 2012-2014 JKs can now save you a few thousand and you end up with exactly what you'll get if you buy a 2016, save for maybe exterior color.

Every year? I thought it was more like every few months. That's why it is so strongly suggested to make sure you put a deposit down on your order, so that you can invoke FCA's Price Protection, to guard you against the inevitable price increase while you are waiting.

I guess with selling every one, FCA is trying to find the breaking point where demand drops to equal supply.

Yes when sales level off the ridiculous price increases will slow down. Imo there getting too expensive for what they are. I love JKs but somethings gotta give. Doubt it will though simple supply and demand. I miss mine a lot until I have to hit the road for a few days.

Correction, it's now $695. The price reflects demand: both by customers, and by oversight agencies. Buyers are coming to realize that the lower gears are translating to better performance, so they want the upgrade. The people who are in charge of fuel efficiency numbers know that lower gears = lower fuel efficiency numbers. So, the math above results in increases in price for options that are desirable on one end (buyer), yet negative on the other end (CAFE standards). In this case, you have to pay more if you contribute to the decline in fuel efficiency.

*Edit: Oh, yeah, and it sucks because I'm getting the 3.73 upgrade when I order in the spring.

re: 2016 Wrangler JK Information Thread

Since Milous has indicated that the 75th anniversary Edition will be based on the Sahara model, my question is...Will there be any special editions based on the Rubicon? After waiting and saving for 2 years for the 75th Anniversary of Jeep to arrive, not sure if the 75th Anniversary Edition will interest me any more that any of the other special editions thus far.

They currently make the Hard Rock special edition Rubicon.

I don't understand the obsession with "special editions". My first Jeep i ordered was a 1981 CJ-7. My options that I selected was a rear seat and a soft top. Back then, the base model didn't even include a top.

Now, to order a base model is like I have committed some crime against humanity.

It's a Jeep, that's it

I have previously owned 9 jeeps dating back to my first, a 1975 CJ-5. I am not obsessed with special editions, but I was hoping for a different version of the Rubicon (yes I know the Hard Rock Rubicon is kind of a special edition) to commemorate the 75th year of the Jeep. If not, I will probably just order a 2 door Hard Rock. Until then I guess I will just keep monitoring this site for updates on any new special editions and quit asking questions.

Seems crazy in today's world, but I'd bet if Jeep offered a true base model (a la your CJ), they'd love quite a few. May not be a "best seller", but I don't think it would cannibalize regular sales either. Different crowd. Two-seater, bikini top (or none), steel wheels, manual trans. Simple (or no) radio. Could be fun!

Me? I'm torn between base model with only 3.73 gears, or a Willys Wheeler (not a W). Should order w/in 30 days or so.

But I'm glad they offer a lot of options. That way we can all be happy.
