re: 2016 Wrangler JK Information Thread

Employee purchases are up to 5% under factory invoice. The dealer gets some cash back from FCA on these purchases.

Dealers can sell below invoice, but not by much (if they still want to profit something).

I've seen 9-10% below MSRP (sticker price) is a pretty good deal.

Obviously there are cases where some dealers basically give cars away, but that is not common and should not be expected.

So who's to say "factory invoice" is what the dealer actually pays the manufacturer for the vehicle? I think most people believe this but I have a hard time believing it. I believe this whole "Factory Invoice" thing is nothing but a clever ploy as MSRP is now a joke. Everyone for the past few decades knows they can get the vehicle for less than MSRP so what do we have now? Factory Invoice... No way these dealers are selling vehicles and making just a few hundred in profit as many believe... no way.

The Eye-Opening Truth About Dealer Invoice Price | Clark Howard
100% positive the factory invoice price is NOT what the dealer pays for the vehicle (at least the factory invoice price in the order guide - if there are other factory invoice numbers I do not know where they come from).

That is why they will sell below invoice. They still make money.

re: 2016 Wrangler JK Information Thread

They make 3% dealer hold back above and beyond invoice.
A clean deal at invoice where you can make 3%?
You do that deal all day long.

Even if you dip into holdback and it's just a $500.00 profit for an hours worth of paperwork?
You do that all day long also.
Financing securement kick backs, accessories, extended warranties, paint sealant, scotch guard and other dealer add on fluff are major profit makers after the initial sale of the vehicle itself.
The dealers aren't starving after the deal is completed.
Usually customers are loyal with service, and if treated right, a repeat sale.

A deal with a trade is the larger profit maker.

It's a high volume, multiple point profit when it comes to making money in the new car business.
The high profit sales are in the used market. That is where the dealerships higher talented employees work, not in the new car side.

I negotiated where my kid ordered his 16' Sahara at invoice minus half of the holdback.
I'll be doing the same deal on my personal 18' diesel wrangler. Two sold in five minutes. 90k of vehicles, and an instant 1.5% profit for shaking hands.
They took care of us, so we'll do all of our service with them....

Thumbs up re: 2016 Wrangler JK Information Thread

Thanks for clearing up all the different terms. I was quite confused when I was relating the "invoice" stuck to the car window ("sticker price" or "msrp") to the dealer's invoice price or factory wholesale price (fwp) as they were way off.

Talked to a couple of dealers and with something like a Chrysler Affiliates control # (Tread Lightly or through your place of work sometimes), FCA gives them some money, so they seem pretty content to make a deal 1% below invoice. However, most dealers also seem to want sticker/msrp on any Unlimited Hard Rock Rubicons on the lot, so you need to find the grey area.

In my case, grey area came easy as a dealer internet sales rep was pretty up front with me in terms of offering a good initial discount and then offering a little more off when I mentioned Affiliates since they get some profit given to work that deal, so I'm at about 3% under invoice here in the Denver, CO area on a pretty much maxed out Tank 2016 Unlimited HRR order and the local dealer offered to match it.

Next question- in this case, the guy up in Boulder gave me the first great offer and I feel somewhat compelled to treat him right even if I buy from the dealer I can literally walk to... Anybody ever sent a thank you card with a few bucks in it or something like that for somebody that enabled you to make a deal you didn't have to go 35 miles/1 hr in traffic one way to get to? I guess that seems petty, but I could walk to the other one in 15 minutes.

Thanks again all!

Wife green-lighted (it's gonna be Tank- get it? Green-lighted?) so I guess I'll go place an order and put down a deposit. Oh yeah, we have one of those $500 coupons, so we'll get that on top of the 3% theoretically as well, so happy days. Then float some money to the fine folks that run JeepGarage for giving me a place to get great info/answers and I'll sleep easy tonight.

IMO, absolutely.
We're all human and we want to be appreciated, and not feel taken advantaged of. I'm sure that happens to car salesmen all the time. Put your best number out there, just to have another dealer match it.

I drive Ford trucks, and we have dealt with the same salesman for years. We could order and close on the phone in minutes.
He was in a head on collision where he was critically messed up. He's single and lives about 75 miles from me. He's divorced and alone, and the jack ass that hit him didn't have an asset to his name and no insurance.
I sent him over about $500.00 worth of fresh food from my store because he's now a friend I care about.

That is totally awesome. When I was younger and less well off, I really wanted to help where I could, but often that was just helping carry stuff when friends moved/etc. These days, I certainly feel like good people are worth more than they make (not the place for a conversation about CxOs, of course) and a good relationship is certainly worth putting some financial effort into occasionally as well.

Congrats, glad it worked out for you! Regarding the abbreviation, I have seen JKURHR for that vehicle, but I don't know if that's the standard.

I'll be rocking a JKRHR once Granite Crystal Metallic can be ordered by my dealer.

Any rumors of replacement? When I ordered my 2014 I thought there was a decent $ difference in the 430N and the 730N, can't believe FCA would remove something that is a higher markup item unless there was something else to replace it. Of course I guess they could always just raise the price of the 430N to what the 730N was.

According to the current order guide, it looks like the 430N went up a bit, but not anywhere near the exorbitant price of the 730N.

2015 430N - FWP $1,019 MSRP $1,145
2016 430N - FWP $1,064 MSRP $1,195

2015 730N - FWP $1,687 MSRP $1,895

re: 2016 Wrangler JK Information Thread

So I'm a little confused. I plan to purchase either the rubicon hard rock unlimited or standard rubicon in granite crystal. Two questions:

1.) When is the earliest I can submit my order for the granite crystal through the dealers?

And does this mean I have to wait to negotiate price until the granite crystal can be ordered? Or can I send them emails now and just have the lowest bidder put the order in when granite does become available?

2.) Can the rubicon hard rock come with cloth seats? (I saw someone post that it was a selectable option)

Thanks,

This will be my first jeep and I want it to be the best.
