re: 2016 Wrangler JK Information Thread

If I've ordered my Jeep already can I still join Tread Lightly and get the discount? It says I have to be a member for 30 days before I purchase. That wouldn't be a problem if I registered in the next month. We've agreed on pricing already so would that matter?

if I had already agreed on pricing then I would stick to it, just because if they tried to change their price on me at the last minute I would be pissed off. that's just me

Except I'm the customer and the one paying for the vehicle. It seems a little silly that I would just dismiss the fact that I could save a considerable amount more.

it seems you have made your mind up already so have at it but don't hide behind im the customer, the customer isn't always right. if you made an agreement you stick to what you agreed to do, just the way I was raised. you shouldn't have made a deal you weren't comfortable with in the first place. what seems silly to me is my word not meaning anything

In reference to the "made up my mind" part, my post didn't ask if I should do it. It asked if I could do it.

Thank you. I guess I should have also asked if dealers have to honor the Chrysler Affiliate Rewards or if only some dealers participate.

The short answers should be: 1) yes, you can still join and use your Tread Lightly discount (I would inform the dealer before doing so, though); and 2) If you consider my rambling discussion below, I think you'll conclude it shouldn't matter that you've agreed on price already, but you'd have to discuss it with your dealer first to be sure, and your results may vary from what others have experienced. Different dealers = different strokes.

It's my understanding that not all dealers will (want to?) honor it, but it doesn't really make sense for them not to. It's a Chrysler Affiliate Rewards program, which means the dealership is reimbursed the discounted amount by Chrysler. I can only imagine that some dealers are reluctant to honor it because it somehow alters how they have structured someone's deal, and thus lose profit on it. I don't know if a certified FCA dealership has to honor it, but I'd be wary if they balk at it.

Now, if you've settled on a price and then join Tread Lightly in the hopes of reducing your discounted amount by an additional 1%, you might put your deal and relationship with the dealer in jeopardy. However, I have read about some people who have asked their cooperating dealer about doing it, and the results have ranged from dealers telling customers that it won't benefit them, so it's not worth it, to encouraging them to do it because it benefits both parties.

I haven't been able to get a satisfactory answer to this last point:

There doesn't seem to be an upside for you to join if you've already struck a deal for better than 1% below invoice (which is Affiliate pricing). Some people claim that the Tread Lightly discount gives you an additional 1% off an already below-invoice price agreement because the dealer is going to be reimbursed that amount anyway, but I couldn't confirm this from reading the Tread Lightly website, and I don't know enough about the Affiliates program to verify that. I've read a fair amount of posts on this subject, and some customers say their dealer agreed to lower the price another 1%, while other dealers would not do so because the price was already below 1%. Make sense? (Yeah, crystal clear!)

To join Tread Lightly and use the discount will cost you $175 ($100 for enrollment; $75 processing fee to use it), so the less your vehicle costs, the less money you save in the end.

It didn't take long; I was at each dealership less than 30 minutes. My tactic was to be polite but firm that I was not ordering today, that I was getting quotes from multiple dealers, and that I would not share quotes between dealers. I chose not to share for two specific reasons. First, I thought that if they did not know the competition it would force them to give me their lowest price the first time. Second, I do not want to bounce back and forth between dealers multiple times for them to beat each others quotes. If you have any questions about that method that has worked for me so far, send me a PM.
Send me a PM please on your method. I'm struggling to get below 1% under invoice because they say it's an aggressive discount already on a popular vehicle

I'd take off the max tow, with 4.10 gears already you are overpaying for the wiring harness and hitch. If you really want it factory, order just the tow package. The aftermarket hitch and wiring harness install easily and are almost identical as well.

I personally wouldn't order the auto temp control, just my choice. It does give you a humidity control which may or may not be nice - it turns the A/C on to dry the air inside the Jeep when it detects higher humidity.

The Premium sound Alpine is worth it now. Since they came out with the new system in 2015 the sound has improved so much even I would order that upgrade rather than swap it with aftermarket.

Also keep the connectivity group too. It's not just bluetooth, it give you a bunch of options you may miss, and it surely helps resale value if you do trade or sell it later on. I'd get it just for the upgrade in the EVIC that it gives you.

Thanks !! I am planning on removing those options but right now I am just looking for fair pricing. At that 41k it is pretty much FWP. I am hoping for more.

This is what the dealer emailed me back.

Thank you for taking the time to reach out to me. I can't confirm whether or not the doc fee gets waived, because our clerk who handles the programs is off on the weekends. I will, however, assume it does and if I'm wrong we'll simply lower the price by $398. Here is your new out the door number:

Selling Price: $44,463
7% Sales Tax: $3,112.41
Plate Fee Estimate: $404
Tire Tax: $7.50
Supplemental Title Fee: $177.85
Total: $48,164.76

-----

Question, I have tread lightly and supposively I'm not suppose to get extraneous fees. I've never heard of plate fee estimate and a supplemental title fee as well as tire tax. Are they allowed to include this in the quote?
And how does the pricing sound? Fair or I can probably go steeper?
