2017 JK headlight review?

With some of the people taking delivery of their 2017 wranglers with LED headlights... anyone have a review of them? I have my 2017 coming and I'd like to know what I'm getting into. Thanks!

Re: 2017 JK headlight review?

I would qualify my own thoughts since picking up my Wrangler on Friday as opinion rather than a review, but until I can put my new Rubicon next to my 03 Rubicon that I sold to my father-in-law, here's what I can say:

The new lights are the best I've ever driven with. I'd been driving my wife's Mercedes E350, which has excellent lights, but the new Wrangler lights are better. I don't think they necessarily show me the road much farther ahead, but within the bounds of their very sharp cutoffs my perception is that I see more of what's there. I find myself more confident during my very early morning commute, even with all the deer out beside and on the road.
Beam quality aside, I'm enjoying the auto feature. Having grown accustomed to lights shutting off automatically in previous cars, I was worried about forgetting to turn off my lights and draining my battery in my new Jeep. Discovering the auto function was a pleasant surprise.

I'm sure somebody will come along who can do objective evaluations of lumens and color temperature and other such measurements that will provide a more scientific assessment of the new lights, but until then my opinion (which seems to be the consensus) is the new lights are pretty doggone good.

Does anyone know if Jeep went with JW Speaker units?

I absolutely love the new lights. Best headlights I've ever driven with, on any vehicle, ever.

The only real question is going to be how they fare with winter snow and ice.

Thanks for the input guys, it seems they are decent. I just don't know if my desire to have the blacked out JW speakers will outweigh the performance. I hope to know in the next two weeks

Re: 2017 JK headlight review?

I have read elsewhere that these are NOT J.K. Speaker led's.

My JKU is awesome with the new LED's and it's disappointing to see Jeep selling them for nearly $850 a set.

They are incredibly bright - High Beams are better than my wife's X3 or my Xenons in my 325. I also love the 'color' of the light - really helps see at night - I live in deer country and picking up the little bastards before they dart into the road is of paramount importance to me.

Re: 2017 JK headlight review?

I agree, the LED lights on the 2017's are fantastic. Wide even pattern with no dead spots. The brights are awesome.

Also, the fog lights that come with the LED light package really do a great job illuminating the road directly in front of the vehicle.

Re: 2017 JK headlight review?

I've only had the chance to drive mine at night once so far, but I was very impressed by the quality and brightness of these lights. I also agree that these are the best lights I've had in any of my vehicles (although I've always had the boring incandescents before!). What I noticed was how well defined each of the outputs were. The highs would illuminate almost exactly at the line where the lows stopped, and the fog's illuminated just below where the lows left off, along with a wide pattern lighting up both sides of the road to help spotted critters lurking out there, just waiting to mess up my new Jeep! Definitely glad I got the upgrade, now just gotta hope they have longevity.

Re: 2017 JK headlight review?

I spoke with a Jeep rep at SEMA and asked about the new LED headlights, from what he told me they are not the same as the ones JW speaker sells to the general public, but they were developed by and/or sourced from JW speaker.

I asked the JW speaker guy also at SEMA, and he avoided the question.

Having owned my JK Rubicon Hard Rock for a little over 3 weeks now for a little over 3700 miles at this point, ( 180 miles round trip to work 6 days a week). Lights are FANTASTIC! Period!

Re: 2017 JK headlight review?

A twist on the question: Has anyone encountered these things coming down the road at you from a Jeep in the other lane, or from behind? One of my pet peeves with LEDs is that they sometimes kinda half blind you if they are pointed at you from certain angles. These things sound even worse than most in that regard.
