re: 2017 Wrangler JK Information Thread

I've been lurking since January and obsessively checking for news several times each day, giddy each time I see a new post from Milous. Thanks for all of the rumors, speculation and good hard data that many on here have provided. With September 1 here, I noticed an article (https://www.cars.com/articles/2017-j...1420690209581/) and wanted to call attention to it. Not much in there that hasn't been discussed on this forum, but perhaps it will whet our appetites as we wait for more information, hopefully later today.

I'll chime in, as others have, and with another request for any hard data on Gobi availability. I can't wait much longer to order and I'd much prefer Gobi over my backup, Rhino.

Thanks in advanced.

Engine block heater give you a heater you can plug in when the car is parked which keeps the engine warm primarily for the oil. Very cold oil gets less runny and makes the engine have to work harder particularly during a very cold start. This is only really necessary in the northern tier winters (think Canadian border) and maybe some of our Rocky Mountain friends. If you haven't heard of it before, chances are you don't need it.

And yes if the Jeep has cloth seats and you get the heated seats you get cloth heated seats. The heated seat option doesn't require or switch you to leather.

Thanks for the info Yoodie! I figured that is what it would be for. I don't particularly need it then since I am most definitely not near the Canadian border or experience a northern tier winter where I am from. Better knock on wood because now that I say it, Long Island might be hit with an "unusually bitter cold winter"

So the press photos show a great shot of the new LED headlights. Anyone know if these are a modified third party? They look new to me.

Also what color is that Hard Rock? Maybe it's just my phone but it doesn't look like firecracker red to me.

The block heater is usually a heating element located in the engine block that warms the coolant/oil prior to you starting the engine. This prevents any wear that comes from starting an engine that is very cold.
You would have to plug it in using an extension cord to your home AC outlet. (That is the last I remember of block heaters)

With regard to the Cold Weather Group... I just ordered a 2017 Unlimited Rubicon. I wanted heated seats, slush mats and remote start. On the Rubicon it was $8 more to get the Cold Weather Group than those options alone. That means I added a block heater for $8.

I'm hoping this means my job will be magically relocated to high in the rockies somewhere because I am now prepared.

Do you normally find out via a email from Jeep, your dealer or by contacting them/ website etc?
I'll be relieved to at least hear they have the order come through.
I went to Jeep chat, told them my VON number and they gave me the VIN number. Mine was ordered on the 24th but order was changed on the 25th. I'll check back in a couple of weeks and see what the status is.

Ha! No not on LI. I am a former LI boy myself. It would be a once a generation cold there or perhaps the sun burning out.

If the sun does burn out, let me know because then I will need a block heater down in the desert SW also.

Hmmm. What's up with the press photos of an orange one?

EDIT: Oh, I see someone asked this already. Yeah, at least on my screen that is nowhere near red.

Those LEDs don't look familiar to me. Other than that photo all of the others look like reused photos from past brochures... That 2Dr almost looks like Sunset Orange which was a 2015?

The LEDs pictured in the brochure are the same ones that were on the pilot vehicles.
