re: 2017 Wrangler JK Information Thread

I am sure this has been mentioned, but the Alpine I feel is totally worth the cost. The stock stereo and speakers are pretty much awful.

However, the 430/430n I do not feel is worth their cost in any way shape or form. The Wrangler is stupidly easy to replace the headunit and for $600/$1200 you can get a much better headunit for less. The radio can be removed in less than 15 minutes. I installed a Kenwood CarPlay/Android Auto unit for about the price of the 430, and I gained HD radio, CarPlay/Android Auto, better interface, OBDC access (Speed, RPM, MPG, fuel level), and more. My steering wheel buttons retain their functions (I actually gained more function bc I was able to assign a function to "holding" the button), and the radio looks nicely integrated.

Edit: I did not get either with our Jeep and I totally regret not getting the Alpine. I do not regret missing out on the 430/430n though.

Got a message from my dealer yesterday that my Hard Rock is showing a ship date of the 24th of this month. Pretty stoked.

I haven't priced out a Sahara vs. a Sport S yet but I imagine the price will be close after rossing the options on. How do I get the "better" leather seats than the katskins? I always thought they were a good brand but I down own a vehicle with leather seats as it is.

The options I'm wanting are.
  • Power Equipment Group
  • Leather with Heated seats
  • communication group with leather steering wheel
  • automatic
  • 3.73 gears
  • limited slip differential
  • freedom top
  • side air bags (the seat mounted ones)
  • 430n radio
  • Alpine Speakers
  • LED Headlights
After adding all this stuff to a sport, it might be the same price to just get the Sahara?
The Sahara will have much better resale value down the road and it will also come with the new LED headlights which would add about $500-600 to the Sport. By the time you option out the Sport it will be within a few hundred dollars of the Sahara.

Rethink the stock HU with Nav. I never owned a factory HU that had NAV as good as the basic $200 Garmin unit you can pickup, plus the Garmin units have free map upgrades.

re: 2017 Wrangler JK Information Thread

I would suggest pricing the difference, and then deciding. I optioned out my Sport S like a Sahara, and should have just got the Sahara for the extra $1,400.

Also, just to note, the 430N is not available in the Sport, only the 430 which does not include navigation.

For the Sport S, the only way to get leather, is by way of the Premium Sound and Leather package.

For the Sahara, you can simply order the leather seat option, and get the regular factory leather seats (in black, in saddle, or in olive). You can also order the Premium Sound and Leather package, as with the Sport S, and get the Katskin leather seats instead (in gray, or in amaretto).

I guess I thought the 8 speaker and the 9 speaker systems were both Alpine systems. I thought the only difference was the subwoofer. Goes to show how little I do know.

Do you still get the turn-by-turn Nav instructions on the EVIC? To me, that's the biggie, and would be an unacceptable loss with any aftermarket unit.

I do not. I was not even aware of the 430N sending data to the EVIC. I had a 430n in our Town and Country (which did send the data to the dash display), but I hated that radio. The bluetooth was clunky and the interface was meh at best. Now maybe they have updated it since 2012, but I still don't think its anywhere near worth $1200. But that is just my $0.02

Rethink the stock HU with Nav. I never owned a factory HU that had NAV as good as the basic $200 Garmin unit you can pickup, plus the Garmin units have free map upgrades.
Couldn't have said it better myself. I have owned 2 Saharas, and both maintained an amazing resale value.

On the stereo issue. I have owned Jeeps without the new Alpine setup, and Jeeps with. IMHO, that stereo is a serious work of acoustical engineering art. And as it was previously mentioned, you could be pretty hard pressed to get the quality and beat the value of the system by installing aftermarket.

The NAV thing was more of a splurge for me, but all of my Jeeps have had the factory version. Each has worked perfectly.
