I am aware of the fact that I only have to pay taxes in CO (around 8.45% including local taxes). It would have been great if I can get the tax credit even when I do a private party sale or sell to another dealer, I checked with my accountant and DMV and both mentioned the tax credit is available only when I trade thru the dealer. In most cases the dealer who offers a good deal on the new car doesn't offer a great deal on the new one.
Absolutely and there are a lot of advantages to buying local, inconvenience of drive, time and gs costs, , keeping money and jobs in your state etc. Just not usually any sales or use tax advantage. It is good you checked with your accountant. But to clarify Colorado generally does not give an across the board credit on trade in on that net taxes/fees 8.45%. as far as I can tell it is always on the 2.9% that is state level, but mostly MSRP based on th majority (some counties/cities are different)

For some people in the US the trade in offset at basis will be large net savings. EG maximum in high tax state with a high price tag purchase where they are selling a high value car, say three year old instead of average 6.5 years old. But that benefit also exists when you buy the car out of state (as long as you don't have a second declared residence in the buying state).

In other cases , about half the country's population, there is no advatage. EG
1) buyers in states that do not allow trade in allowance to reduce sales tax basis (7)
2) states with no sales tax (4)
3) states that do allow you to use a sale to someone other than dealer you bought from as allowance to reduce tax basis as long as that sale is withing 20 to 90 days. (16)

There are also some people in some tax situations where sales taxes paid are allowable deduction. and there are also jurisdictions which cap total taxes paid. Those factors reduce tax advantage of using trade in.

Your situation was likely a substantial net benefit due to trade in.

Maybe. On a rational basis there is no reason for anyone to buy a jeep other than a small core of enthusiasts. They have poor handing, terrible gas mileage, a stiff ride, ancient entertainment system, poor safety features, mediocre comfort with few interior options, lousy motorcycle headlights, and they are overpriced for what you get.

Yet they can't build them fast enough which drives up resale.

That could change in 2017 with increased factory capacity and a redesign, but I doubt it.

In the end there is nothing quite like a Jeep so logic just gets tossed out the window.

It is an interesting economics question. In the case of an MPG falsification the inured party is mostly buyer and to the extent you are burning more gas, a secondary smaller harm the full class of living and future humans. In the case of falsified safety it would be similar; with buyer being primary harmed class, with car insurance, and now with ACA, all taxpayers being secondary and tertiary injured classes.

But I understand the falsification was emissions. In other words not particular harm to the buyer, but harm to everyone equally: VW owner, non VW owner, non car owner. You would be harmed only if there were a forced or mandatory emission fix that then reduced performance.

Don't get me wrong. I am glad you got your money/credit/buyback! But If I were teaching econ 101 class, that would be an interesting question to ask students: which class of persons should receive compensation for a makers's emission cheat?

Diogen, the compensation is to help entice owners to get the vehicles off the roads. So if you don't own one of the vehicles in question, you shouldn't receive any compensation what so ever. As for you being harmed by the emissions, VW is being forced to step up to the plate with millions going toward clean energy technology. That was an easy economics question but please keep in mind this is jeep forum.

Kenwood DDX9702S

It works fine with Carplay. I plug my phone in and it pops up the warning not to use while in motion, then goes into the Carplay interface. I don't have any complaints against the unit itself. Even though I have to plug my phone in to get GPS, I will take it over the 430N everyday.

I also had an Android phone, and it works pretty good as well. It seemed a bit more finicky, but that was a year ago, so the software could have been improved since then.

I don't want to put my order in until I actually know what my options are.
Go to car.com. You will find the 2017 options, colors and prices all listed. It will also give you invoice prices to work your deal.
I just ordered a 2017 a couple of weeks ago and the options and pricing was spot on.
Good luck!

When the 2017 info gets posted on the website, all that will be posted is what's available for purchase at that time. It will not have any info on future colors nor on future special editions. That info doesn't get posted until its available for purchase, which is many months later.

If you want to wait until all the official info is known for 2017, you'll never, ever, be able to put in your order until the model year is over, but by then its too late.
