You can download the 2017 brochure as well. After playing a little bit with the URL, here is where I downloaded it from: https://www.jeep.com/assets/pdf/eBro...g%20(2017).pdf

Hope it helps.

So, I wouldn't get to excited.

Although, the guy does know axles...

Watch this pops up on Jalopnick now.
The more I think about this post above the more I think the RECON is going to be available with D60s and 3L VM Diesel motor!

Why are they testing the 3L Diesel and 8 SP ZF transmission in a JK so long ahead of its launch in the JL.

Have a close look at the fit out of the DEF tank and lines, IMO this is production stuff.
Now if they put D60s on the mule then that would plain give everything away with the fact that they would need 8 lug rims and not JK Rubi ones.

2018 Jeep Wrangler Rubicon Diesel Mule Spied with DEF Tank

My take is the RECON is going to be big final show down of the immensely successful JK generation.

Here to hoping for a 2017 Recon Rubicon with D60s, a 3L VM diesel 8sp ZF trans, Mopar beadlocks and 4 inch lift and 35 inch BFGs as optional !

O and I call dibs on the first one off the production line...

Now over to Milous and AA for further details

I don't think Archer is trying to imply that the Recon will have a diesel at all in that post. He is comparing the rumor of D60s to the rumor of diesels that he has heard about for so many years. I would say the percent chance that a diesel gets a surprise release at the very end of the JK run in a special edition rounds to zero. Too much engineering and design for ~5000 vehicles.

Maybe maybe not...

Is the R&D not done and this is the proof?

In the final year of the JK what model production numbers will most likely take a nose dive... I would say top end model... and what would be the best way to make sure they have the 7500 orders they plan.. it would need to be something pretty special to lure those top end buyer away from the JL model. I would also think that the profit margin on the top end model is important to FCA and hence them needing to maintain production numbers. IMO a carbon copy of the specs of the Hard Rock will not pull the numbers on its own.

just my 2c worth

I disagree with this supposition.

Personally, if I were buying a top-of-the-line $50k vehicle, I'd rather have the very last of a known-good line, then the very first of an untested one. Or, to put it another way: the best of the JKs instead of the worst of the JLs.

I could be wrong, but I suspect their sales will increase towards the end, rather than drop off.

The concept Recon didn't feature a diesel. Also given that the JL won't launch with diesel as an option it seems unlikely we see a JK with it.

Agree with thirdman.
Plus it's not as simple as just dropping a new motor into a vehicle and selling it. There's plenty of testing to be done to satisfy the government before it can be sold. Crash and safety tests, emissions testing etc. It costs mucho dollars on the manufacturers side to accomplish this.

Even take a look at consumer reports for the JK from 2012 to 2016.

looks something like this - BAD / BAD / worse/ average / good etc. (example to make a point)

I believe first years have not been kind for any Jeep models looking at the track records listed is Consumer reports. That is if you even still give any merit to CR.

So technically the 2017 JK will be it's best year if you look at the track record from year to year. Now the 2018 we know for sure will get better gas milage but it has to come at a cost. Something has to go and we know for one it's the steel doors / steel hood etc. I rather have it built like a tank and drink heavy then crush like a clown car that sips slowly.

This version of the sales brochure seems incomplete. Previous years included detailed models chart with standard feature, options and a color chip section. All that is missing from this 2017 brochure.

Launching the JL with a diesel option has not been ruled out yet that I can find.
