Chevette?... Not so much.
Isn't that the truth. In the late 70's early 80's Corvettes could barely do a 15 second quarter mile. Even the 1991 Corvette with the L98 only put out 250 hp from a 5.7 liter V8. I think peak hp was at like 4,000 rpm. I know the gold nugget/hairy chested/too tan Corvette guys from that era liked them that way but I am glad GM picked up the pace in the ensuing years. Now we have flat plane crank Mustangs pumping out 500+hp from just a bit over 5 liters.
I almost bought a new 911 about 18 months ago and now regret not doing so. All the Porsche sports cars now have turbocharged engines and I think that destroys an engine's character. Yeah I know all about the perfectly flat torque curves; as long as you are at max boost all the time. For my tastes a naturally aspirated engine will win me over every time.
Way OT I know so I'll close by say bravo to Chrysler for the 285 V6 in the Wrangler.
