re: 2017 Wrangler JK Information Thread

In response to SoCalRubicon and SeaJay, my decision is based on "need", somewhat. "Want", alot. divorced for 13 years, two through college, one starting. My support stopped two months ago. A gift to myself. Don't have much probably never will. But, I want something FUN to drive and a joy to own. Jeep is the one. Waited a long time. Time to celebrate. Going to up my membership when it gets ordered too.

I'm sure there are plenty of people on this forum who can afford a Hard Rock or a decked out Sahara but are honest enough with themselves to buy what they actually need or will use... not want. Thinking like this will almost guarantee you a nice fat bank account throughout life.
My opinion is that his "budget" should have everything to do with his decision. I'm about to order a Willys because I can't afford a Hard Rock. It's a budget thing. I'll be just as proud of my Willys because that's where I shake out in the budget department.

I highly doubt there are Black Bears hanging out on lots with the exact build someone has created.

I know someone is going to bring up how you could still get Dragons well after the model year closed. But that's not the point I'm trying to make.

If you can't order it, don't have it as an option to build. If someone wants one, when they click on it, it should take them to an inventory page with a "this is what you can choose from because we ain't makin' 'em no mo', sucka" or something a tad nicer.

Mainly I'm complaining that they don't update their site and they have a lot of errors. We've all seen them. I'm saying that they need to fix that. Especially since that is where people go to first for their vehicle research.

Now back to our regularly scheduled program.

Could not agree more. My guess is they don't update the build and price on purpose until October because selling the 2016's on the lots now is a high priority and it should be a high priority from a business stand point. It just doesn't feel like a "customer first" way to do business though.

Agree 100% Bubba... understood. My post was in regards to someone judging what someone else wants to drive going solely by what that person can afford. When you drive your new Willys down the road is it right for another to think "A Willys? Guess that's all he can afford." You're staying within your budget, cool... that's how it should be. I was only saying just because you drive a Sport it doesn't necessarily mean it's because you couldn't afford a Hard Rock.
In the mans original post he stated he couldn't decide between 3 different Wranglers... so automatically money was brought into it? What he can afford? His "budget?" Just seemed kind of lame to me...
Enjoy your Willys dude.
Btw... I work with primarily low income individuals and families, trying to give them a leg up in the world. Fresh starts, managing bankruptcies, child support issues, etc... so this kind of thinking is just my pet peeve.

I think they're targeting their customers. Maybe I'm wrong, but I suspect that the vast majority of folks who buy cars (Jeeps included) do so by finding one at a dealership. Most people can't or don't want to wait weeks/months to get their new car. Especially for a model year that isn't even fully announced, let alone in production. (Keep in mind that there's still 31 days until production even *starts* for 2017 models.)

The job of the Build & Price tool is to let you virtually build a Jeep, like you'd want it to be, and then find dealerships that have something similar. It's not an order page to literally have your Jeep built; it's a tool to help you find what's out there. That's why there's still options on there that you can't order now: those options are still available out in the world. To order a car, they expect you'll go and work with your local dealer. (Which is what the order guides are for.)

To put it from a different perspective: imagine you're someone looking to buy a new car, but you're not going to order it and wait for months. You go on to the manufacturer's website to price out the car you want only to get to the end and get a message saying "These don't even exist yet, and won't for months. Sorry." You'd be just as irritated.

From a UI design standpoint, you gotta target the largest use-case. Yeah, the die-hard Jeepers are going to order and it'd be nice if the price tool was up there. But we're also gonna be the ones to go to, say, JeepGarage.org. But the majority of their users just want to know what 2016s are kicking around on dealership lots.

Agree with all your comments but just to clarify, from a purchase point of view the dealer factory orders now being taken on 2017 are not some kind of spec based on old numbers, they are fully worked out 2017 priced 2017 option purchases. The option number for LED lights is all there in the ordering software etc. All the 2017 prices are in there too. It is not an agreement to order, but an order itself, just like your 2016 order 6 months ago would look like, with the exception of longer estimated delivery.

SeaJay, you are so right. The original post did mention three different models from one wrangler spectrum to the other. With that being the case, packages, options, and colors probably will rule in their decision instead of price. Just the other day, I went back and played with building a Sport S to look at the Hypergreen and leather seats again. I'm still sticking with the Willys.

Yes, absolutely. All of that information is all settled and in a computer somewhere. And I don't disagree that it'd be cool - for those of us that *are* willing to wait for our 2017 order - to be able to do a build and price online.

My point was only that, from Jeep's point of view, a lot more potential customers would be annoyed by a "There are none. You can't buy this for months" message from the tool. Those of us ordering are going to do so anyway, by going on forums (thanks Milous) and working with dealers. So it's still "customer first", we're just not the majority of customers.

DocTanner, I had not thought of it in those terms. Very good point. Those of us wanting to order and have a jeep built are probably always a very low minority.

Well I've made my decision..........2-door Jeep Wrangler Rubicon Hard Rock. Black with painted roof and painted fender flares. Looked hard and long at colors and kept coming back to this color and combination. May never lift it so it will be great as a stock Jeep for all I'll ever do. From DD to work to helping out on a farm to fire and rescue calls as a vol. fire fighter to vacation trips.
