To be fair, that's because of your own limited budget. That's not to say that just because he can afford a hard rock that the sport s may not actually be the better Jeep for him personally. Just because you can afford the more expensive one doesn't always make it the smartest buy.

Here is the feedback I got directly from Jeep regarding their woefully behind build and price tool on their website...

"The "Build and Price" is a great tool for searching dealer inventory for your vehicle of choice but it is not designed as a vehicle ordering tool. Since the factory order system of models, options and colors may change often, what you "Build and Price" may not match what is available in the factory order system. The Build and Price is only a guideline for
searching dealer inventory for your vehicle of interest.

An option or model that may no longer be available may still appear on the "Build and Price" so that you may search existing dealer inventory for vehicles even though the option or model may no longer be available in the factory order system."

I guess since I've even seen a few 15's out there, it's not inconceivable that a Black Bear might be out there...somewhere...perhaps...

I'm not sure why finances have become such a big discussion here. It's simple, buy the model that you like/suits your needs that's within your means. Seems common sense. Responsibility! Lol

Personally, I buy Sports. There is no reason for me to buy a Sahara or Rubicon. For example, I will tear out and change the entire suspension system. I won't leave one aspect of it. Why would I pay for an upgraded suspension when it won't be used? Rubicon tires and wheels would come off within a week of owning them for aftermarket wheels and 40s.

Do what suits you and is responsible.

Hello everyone, great information here for a first time Wrangler buyer. I appreciate everyone's posts.

I'm talking to dealers, including Koons. None of my local dealers in the Midwest have been able to get close so far. Several won't even provide a price via email.

One local dealer says :

"I may be higher but I will be able to get you the Wrangler anyone can quote a low price on something they can't get."

She also claims ordering for 2017 Rubicons is not yet open. Is there any validity to either of her statements?

I love new cars, but buying them is rarely a good experience. So far I've been very impressed with Koons, thanks Craig.

Ordering is open. Any dealership can get any wrangler by ordering. She is just talking. I'm in the Midwest as well and was able to get a great price. You just need to put in work and get quotes. You can always haggle a quote down as well.

Help me understand, please. If money was absolutely no object for me, why would I choose a Sport S over a Hard Rock? I have not studied the Hard Rocks very much because I could not afford them, but I'm pretty sure if I was extremely wealthy and wanted a Wrangler Unlimited, I would be building and pricing the top shelf models. Maybe my thinking is wrong here.

I think they just mean that if your are going to mod your Jeep into something bigger and badder than you can get from the factory, it's more cost effective to throw away Sport parts that you are replacing than those from a Hard Rock.

I do understand now. Thanks for explaining. I was not thinking in terms of mods. The only mod I had thought about was a small lift kit.

I don't have to worry too much about the cost of a Jeep. But, I have a base Sport with steelies. Just because I am a cheap bastard. Which is why I don't have to worry about the cost of a Jeep.

Well said, moresmoke! There's a lot of wisdom in those words. I am a cheap bastard as well.

I like the "buy what fits" mindset too. I've owned 2 Saharas, and 1 Rubicon. But this time around, I was thinking Willys. Just because I wanted something different.

Plus, we all know at least one mega hardcore Jeeper that will tell us everything that we are doing wrong with our Jeeps after we get them anyway...

I often wonder if there are Ford F-150 forums that have the same discussions that we do. I seriously think it's a Jeep thing.

You might miss heated seats in the Willys up there in Alaska!
