2017 Wrangler Redesign!

I know its a couple years away but is anyone else looking forward to the 2017 redesign? Don't get me wrong I love the current design and even bought my '07 Rescue Green Sahara Unlimited when it was only a couple months old. It just turns out that the 2017 redesign falls right in place with our future budget plan. I like some of the things I'm hearing, such as it being lighter(at the cost of an independent suspension) and aluminum body panels or frame sections. Slightly more aero dynamic. More back seat room/seats being less straight up. Lets not forget the possibility of a diesel or HEMI. Ok I added the HEMI but we can hope. I read a lot of the things that people want change on the current models are being held off till the redesign. Post any new or wishful news!

Nope. Not interested in the redesign.

I'm going to order a '17 Unlimited (last year of the JK) right at the last possible moment before they stop production to go along with my 2014 2dr I just bought in March so there is an aftermarket parts commonality between the two.

As for those concept pictures - those are just "What If" drawings, not official in any way, shape, or form.

The new redesign will not have IFS.

Marchionne basically said it without coming out and saying it at the Detroit Auto Show group interview. (Chrysler CEO Sergio Marchionne at the Detroit Auto Show: 2014)

Quote:

"I think we’ll update design and style, but without touching the fundamental elements of the Wrangler. You’ve got to be very, very careful. You can update it, but you can’t change it. If you take the nature of the Wrangler out, you’ll kill it."

He says they will change the design and style but won't change the fundamentals. The main fundamental element of the Wrangler is it's solid axles.

Based on that, all the redesigned Wrangler will simply be a JK with a non-removable roof, power retractable antenna, and go back to the yellow front directionals.

Re: 2017 Wrangler Redesign!

I am hoping the 75th Anniversary Wrangler is as cool as the 10A Rubicon... I am getting an Anniversary Wrangler...

Re: 2017 Wrangler Redesign!

I realize that all the pictures and stories on the redesign are just speculations, wants and hearsay. Just liked that picture out of the many I've seen. I hope the 75th is awesome as well Barnett, it will give me a design I still like to fall back on if the redesign turns out to be a flop.

Re: 2017 Wrangler Redesign!

Its honestly pretty nice right now. I hope they don't change much actually. Aluminum body panels would be great, and give us a V8 already damnit. Unfortunately with sales being so high now, people who will actually never even take the Wrangler offroad are going to be the same ones who will complain about the "harsh ride" and crappy fuel economy. Hopefully Jeep stays true to their core and only makes upgrades not brand killing changes. The TJ to JK transition was very well done. Except for the 3.8.

Re: 2017 Wrangler Redesign!

Not to hijack, but what are the chances of the EcoDiesel ending up in the '16s? I'd assume it's a go for the 2017s with the success of the GC/Ram. I would, however, think that engineering in a '16 diesel prior to a major redesign would burn a lot of resources. Thoughts?

I think its a certainty we'll not see a diesel in a domestic JK. I am not sure where you saw that the diesel is a success in the GC, because the Jeep exec mentioned that he would not even consider a diesel in another domestic Jeep until/unless the domestic GC diesel sales doubled.

As to the 2018 redesign, I think all there are, are guesses as to what the engine(s) might be.

Re: 2017 Wrangler Redesign!

Hmmmmm.... I don't know... They could certainly do worse than that picture. I think it would look cool in 4 dr. But cosmetic designs only ( well.... mebbe a few electronic perks) but leave the basic machine alone. V8 power would be nice also. I guess you can add V8 now (Hemi) but at a painful cost. Time will tell...

Drive On!!...
