There's gonna be a 2018 Wrangler JK "classic" for six months along side the new 2018 JL. That's what most people are assuming the 2018 Wrangler XX is going to be..

Built on separate lines (at different locations as well?) of course so the logistics won't be too bad if/when it actually happens.

Re: 2018 Wrangler JL Information Thread

The JL is a deal killer for me. Fox News released some renderings today in an article that show the new roof structure to be made up of removable panels only. So the vehicle is no longer a convertible with only the sport bar blocking visibility, but instead is a hard top vehicle with removable panels.

I won't even drive a hard door Wrangler because I cannot stand the door frame blocking my view, so these are a non starter for me.

Trying to order a JK now but am finding that Gobi is not showing up on the WW as an option.

Sad days for Jeep.

Yup. My god its terrible.

I'm not sure what the line of thinking here is. I understand that most people buy 4 doors and never take the top and doors off, etc. etc. etc., but the fact that they COULD, and people like me do, is why the soccer moms buy them. How many who buy the Rubicon package actually need it? It makes zero sense for them to buy it, but they do because of what it represents, not necessarily how they are going to use it.

How many stupid ass kids are running around with diesel pick ups that will tow 25,000 pounds that never tow anything with them or even have a load of lumber in the bed?

How many squids out there buy a sport bike and never lean it over far enough to scrub the tires in?

Chrysler is failing to understand the market here. Do they even understand the Jeep wave? It originally meant something because the owner was putting up with a fairly rough and uncomfortable vehicle because he was hardcore enough to need it. There was a certain amount of respect that went along with suffering through driving a CJ. The JK nearly destroyed that and this abomination will finish it off.

As far as I recall, Jeep Wrangler had a nhtsa convertible exemption that will expire soon, most likely 2017. That could be why the new 2018 JL roofline looks the way the renderings portray.

Ouch ... that is definitly painful to watch. If this is true indeed all the used JKs will be in crazy deamand - buy one (or two) if you can.

Question Re: 2018 Wrangler JL Information Thread

Is it possible that this is only showing what the 'hardtop' option will be like?
Or is the hardtop going to be even more 'enclosed' than this thing above is?
Or will there even be a separate hardtop other than this above?

I want the 8 speed/better fuel economy, the upgraded Pentastar V6 (currently found in the Grand Cherokee) and whatever interior upgrades that are likely coming with the JL, but I also want a REAL open top experience as well.

Not to get too political, but with the changing landscape maybe the JK will be around a lot longer than we would otherwise think. It's a shame jeep has to quit making a vehicle that everybody seems to want. Maybe there's room for JK and JL long term. With the integral roof the JL seems to be just another SUV now. Other than straight axles of course.
