Re: 6 Speed or Auto for 2015 JK??

See, now that surprises me. As much as you can keep a JK interior in good shape while still removing the top and driving offroad, we also maintain a pretty clean vehicle...enough so that our dealer gives a trade-in estimate sight-unseen and the dealership owner has been known to commandeer our trade-ins for family members... The 08 JKU Sahara with an auto that we dropped off sat on his lot until going to auction. The 08 JK X with a manual sold in about a week.

Re: 6 Speed or Auto for 2015 JK??

I'm about 8k miles in on my hydro blue 2 door jk rubicon soft top with a manual. I LOVE driving the thing with a manual. It feels like a truck and like I expect a jeep to feel. I have noticed, however, some odd noises coming from underneath when it's out of gear and the clutch isn't engaged. Like a slight rattling noise that isn't consistent. I had the dealer look at it and the shop foreman said it was most likely a characteristic of the vehicle. Time will tell. Regardless, I have it on record that I "complained" about it. I absolutely love everything else about it. The manual tranny was perfect with the rubicon package while at the off road parks. That thing is a billy goat and will go anywhere I point the wheel. Truly unique and remarkable vehicle. Mine is all stock. Not a tweak. And I took it though some nasty muddy trails and some tight rocky trails that had a super high pucker-factor. I thought for sure I'd be putting to use m my LoJack. Not so. For city driving in Chicago I usually go from first to third and skip second in town between stop lights. On the highway- it's comfortable enough. Off-road- especially in 4 low- you don't need to ride the clutch. First gear in 4 low- it just keep going wherever you point it. Amazing vehicle. I like the manual. Just hope it lasts a while before I have to beg for warranty repairs on a clutch or throw out bearing.

Re: 6 Speed or Auto for 2015 JK??

I've given up on dealers in the Indianapolis area when it comes to warranty repairs. At just past 10k miles my 14 needed a new Rear Main seal....and the local dealer tried to SELL me a new clutch. Said the clutch was failing and that was causing rear main seal fail. Only explanation: "well, you took it off-road, so you probably burned up the clutch".

Riiiiiiggghhhttt... Before we head down the rabbit hole of your accusation that I don't know how to drive and wouldn't recognize a failing clutch, how about we discuss the oil pan gasket that you destroyed and is creating a pizza sized oil stain on my driveway after less than an hour. No, still want to sell me a new clutch? LaPorte CJD, in northern Indiana might not have been on the ball with phone calls and keeping me informed on the repairs, but they did a stellar job of fixing what the other dealer broke and putting me back on the road completely under warranty.

Re: 6 Speed or Auto for 2015 JK??

Our 2004 Rubicon has a 5 speed and I've taken it places others haven't gotten an auto to go, so it's certainly not a bad idea off road. However, consensus is that the auto is better offroad these days, so we ordered our 2016 with the auto even though my wife wanted the stick more. I made it her decision and she said she wanted the theoretically more capable vehicle than the more fun every other time you drive it vehicle. Luckly for us we're keeping the 04 and my toy is a 6 speed GTO, so we'll still be able to row our own gears. I guess the point is that you really can't go wrong with either.

15 JKUHR with a manual. NO REGRETS at all. In fact, I can't see myself enjoying it half as much had I chosen the auto.

I'm partial to stick myself.
I'm almost 37 years old and have never owned an auto. Would feel like a golf cart to me.

Re: 6 Speed or Auto for 2015 JK??

Just bought '16 2-dr Sahara with automatic, and had Mopar cold air intake installed by dealer. My first impressions of the 3.6 are not very good. It is better than my '93 Sport and '08 3.8, but does not have the pickup I expected. I am interested in others' opinions.

I had a '11 JK, 6 spd with 3.73 gears. I really enjoyed it but had to trade it in for a shop van.

A year ago I drove a '14 JK 6 spd with 3.21 gears and I found it sluggish.

Same options (none) other than the gears in the '11.

Re: 6 Speed or Auto for 2015 JK??

For me, if I get a JK, I like the stick. To me it's just more fun to drive. I've had 2 and both were sticks. If I get a JKU, it will be an automatic.
