Any thoughts about what's a fair discount on in-stock 2016

Was about to order a new 2017 (my very first Jeep, a 30 years old dream of mine ), but wife got me thinking about maybe finding a 2016 that I liked.

Besides the obvious MSRP markup for the new LED's, there's no real increase in 2017 cost's so what do ya'll think is fair to offer the dealer? I signed up for the Tread Lightly 1% under invoice program, so I'm assuming the price should be even better then that considering it is after all a "older" year model.

any thought? I don't want to be rude with my offer, but sure don't want to be overpaying.

Thanks!

Mati

Depends where you live....you can get some really great deals on '16s and '17s in the DC area right now with vehicles that are on the lot. There are quite a few '17s already on lots too. The best deals are on the '16s it also depends on what model you're looking for the high end ones currently have more off than a lower end models.

What model are you looking at? also what packages and options?

Thanks WK2OverlandII for taking the time to answer me.

I'm in the Dallas (TX) area, so looks like 2017's are already in transit or on the lot.

Was looking at JKUR's, might go with a HR if the deal is way better, but I honestly don't think the package is worth $4800 TO ME.

Shoot for 9-11% off MSRP and you should be good.

IMHO, the significant difference, would be based on the invoice price differences between the '16 and the '17. In other words, what you'll mostly save with the 2016, is the price increase that came with the 2017's.

If the 2016 has been sitting for a while, there might be yet another mid-year price increase you'll be saving too.

If they don't come down on price, just get a '17. The difference in price is only a couple hundred bucks. Mention to them the '16 if it has been sitting more than a few weeks has developed lot rot (rusty brakes, flat spotted tires, weak battery, been washed numerous times with dirty towels, etc).

Don't know about the HR, but before I ordered a 2017 I had the dealer check around for a 2016 JKUR with no hits within 300 miles. Even when they took the options and color out of the equation they couldn't find one.
I do see a handful of Sports and a couple Saharas on lots around the area (100 miles west of DC), but unsold Rubicons seem to be thin on the ground.
That said, maybe you'll be lucky and find one. Then you can put the money you save into aftermarket LEDs and other goodies.
Good luck
Mark

Thanks Mark. Here in the DFW area there are plenty of JKUR's with Auto/4.1 and side air bags (which are my mine concerns), but I contacted over 10 dealers so far, and some of them said they can't see NONE within 500 miles radius... so I guess it all depends on where they are looking at... he must have been looking in his own limited network of dealers.

The 8-11% MSRP sounds right on the money. I just checked the differance in price on KBB between same 2014 and 2015 (punched same mileage and same features), and the 2015 is worth about $1300 more then the 2014, WITH SAME OPTIONS, SAME MILES.

When you add the difference the the LED's will have on the 2017 vs 2016, I'm guessing a similar equipped 2016 JKUR should be about $1800-$2000 less then the 2017. when you take onto consideration the 1% under invoice I get with the "tread lightly" and affiliate reward program, you get about $4500-$5000 under MSRP (10%-11%), so thanks again hirdlej3

Sorry if this is too much math or if I confused anyone.... still haven't put an offer on any jeep, so this is all in theory for right now...

No problem, glad I could be of help. I've been shopping for a wrangler for 2 years and trying to weasel the best deal. It seems it's impossible to break the 11% barrier even with the best of negotiation tactics. My Sahara that I ordered had a MSRP of $40,295. I got the dealer down to $36,3xx. That's roughly 10% off. Any more haggling and people were going to need psychiatric evaluation I stopped at that and put my deposit down and ordered.

If you're willing to pick-up the Jeep in Houston, you can get the price you are looking for with no haggling.

I got nearly $7,000 off MSRP on my '16 75th Anniversary.

None of those points are valid. I would Just think you didn't know anything about cars if I were the salesman. Lot rust? Lol
