Exclamation AX-15 Tranny Swap - Pilot Bearing Issue

OK. Here is a good question.

I have a 1991 wrangler 4.0L with the AX-15 Transmission.

I rebuilt an AX-15 transmission (and transfer case) over the winter and am doing a drive train swap. When I went to put in the new pilot bearing that came with the clutch kit I realized there are two bearings in the kit. Here is my issue. The input shaft on the rebuilt transmission measures .75". The input shaft on the old transmission measures .56". I pulled the pilot bearing out and went to put in the bearing that fits on the rebuilt transmission and the "OH NO" moment happened. The O.D. on the removed pilot bearing is 1.055" and the replacement bearing O.D. is 1.00". I did not pay attention to the transmission year, so I assume now that it is a 1992 AX-15 transmission I rebuilt.

Rock Auto Bearing Measurements 1991 - 4.0L: (NATIONAL Part # FC66426 Bore=0.5934", Outer Diameter=1.055", Width=0.719")
Rock Auto Bearing Measurements 1992 - 4.0L: (NATIONAL Part # SCE1295 Bore=0.75", Outer Diameter=1", Width=0.5618")

Is there a pilot bearing on that will fit a 1992 AX-15 transmission into a 1991 YJ Crank Shaft or a sleeve for the 1992 needle bearing? Basically I need a pilot bearing with an O.D. of 1.055" and an I.D. of .75"

Any advise would be appreciated. I don't like the thought of having to crack open the tranny to swap the input shafts.

Re: AX-15 Tranny Swap - Pilot Bearing Issue

I have a 89 Jeep Cherokee Sport. I recently bought a new rebuilt 4.0 and a new clutch kit. I have a problem. The new motor has a post 92 crank and the AX-15 tranny has a pre 91 shaft. I need a pilot bearing set up with a 1.000 OD with a pre 91 shaft ID. Any help would be greatly appreciated.
