I have owned 5 Jeeps over the years: '74 CJ-5, '04 TJ, '77 CJ-7, '89 YJ and '94 YJ.
I am planning to purchase a new JKU in the next 6-7 months. How can I be sure I'm getting the best deal on it? I am retired military, a USAA member and I know that will help me with some discounts but only about a thousand dollars or so. I live in Colorado and it seems like every dealer is asking close to MSRP. Should I consider buying out of state?
You might consider signing up for a $100 1 year membership with Tread Lightly. That gets you Chrysler Affiliates pricing which is 1% under the factory invoice price. You are supposed to wait 30 days to use the discount though.
I was ordering a new jeep so here's what I did:
I emailed about 8 of the closest dealerships and told them about my qualifying for the Affiliates program and then asked what the best "percent under invoice" was that they could get me. I told them was looking for a no-hassle, straight forward transaction. Only half of the dealerships were seriously interested in my business (most want to call you or have you come in so they can talk you into something) and only 3 offered more than the 1% under invoice.
I ended up going a little further outside the city (Seattle) and ended up saving another percent on sales tax too.
