Best Wrangler for flat towing

Hi All:

well I have in the past towed my CJ2A behind our motorhome, with no problems at all. Now we are looking at doing a minimum 6 month trip and as such am thinking that I would love to have something a touch newer than a 1946 vehicle behind me. Not to mention it would be easier to drive around cities and such.
Having said all this, with all your experience, what would be the best year, and optioned Wrangler to tow? I would be interested if standard would be better than Automatic, and what year may be lightest.
thanks so much

I don't know about vehicle weight, but they all (yj/tj/jk) tow the same- xfer case in neutral and transmission in gear or in D. The xfer case on N takes the trans out of the equation really, so it doesn't matter which you have. Id think a new jk would be lightest due to gas mileage targets, but my friend google could tell you for sure. I do see lots of tjs behind motor homes.

JK's are heavier, but will also offer the most convenience and SHOULD be the most trouble free, maintenance wise. A 2 door would still offer a lot more space than your CJ2A (sweet Jeep, btw!) but not be quite as enormous as the 4 door. A TJ might offer the best compromise of features, modernness and price, though YJ's can be found quite cheap.
