Thought I'd post this in case anyone else was experiencing the same problem.
This is probably only related to the iPhone 7+. I was experiencing poor streaming quality to my 430n—audio would skip like a scratched CD and sometimes I would lose the connection all together. I figured it was an issue with the 430n as I hadn't experienced it in other cars. Plugging in via USB resolved the "skipping". Still wasn't happy and I was considering eventually going with an aftermarket head unit, which I really didn't want to do.
Solution (at least it seems so far). Turn off LTE on the phone. Came across a post on Apple forums that some were experiencing Bluetooth connection issues, possibly linked to interference with the LTE radio. Seems like the problem is limited to GSM (AT&T) 7+ phones. Haven't experienced the "skipping" since. Happy to have good quality streaming to my 430n, but annoyed that I have to disable LTE. At least it's a problem with the phone and not my 430n.
I had this issue with my iPhone 7 Plus on a beta version of iOS 10. It drove me absolutely insane, but nothing would resolve it. I just traded the Wrangler in instead ?
Nope, affects Verizon too. I'll try the LTE off workaround to see if it helps.
It almost seems like a buffering issue, where the data buffer gets sucked up and that triggers a gap for it to re-buffer. Also, if you listen carefully you may pick up on very subtle stuttering every once in awhile, again a buffering issue (but you have to listen very carefully to hear it).
So I could see that there could be interference, which would periodically eat into the data buffer, so maybe that's it. Hopefully an iOS update fixes it, or maybe an iPhone 8 (or whatever the heck they'll call it this year!)
Forgot that I already tried turning off LTE, and it still does not help audio drop-outs. I can connect just fine for phone calls, and that works great, it's just the audio that stinks. Maybe it's time to snake a Lightning cable from the USB port, through the console up to the dash ...
Let me add that my problem occurs whether the source is via the cloud (Apple Music, Pandora, etc.) or stored locally on my device; affects Podcast playback as well. Definitely an issue with the Bluetooth connection itself and not my data connection.
I tried this with mine, and it did nothing. As thirdman said, it's definitely a Bluetooth connection issue, and not a network or data issue. I don't have any issues with the same phone and software in my 2017 Grand Cherokee Overland.
iOS 10.3 appears to have (mostly) fixed the issue for me. In about an hour and a half of streaming today I noticed maybe two tiny blips in audio with LTE enabled. Before it was unusable with LTE on. Blips today could have even been due to streaming from the cloud. I'll have to test streaming locally stored audio.
iOS 10.3 didn't resolve the periodic audio drop-outs for me (iPhone 7+, Verizon, music stored on-device). Maybe a bit less frequent, but still happens about every 20-30 minutes, and had a full-on drop (430N switched from Bluetooth input to Satellite on its own).
But hey, 10.3.1 is out today so ...
