on an 18", yes. You can go to tirerack or the tire manuf's site and check for approved wheel widths:

sure if the 37x12.50 tire is a 18" tire..
you are leaving out that measurement in your post...

tires basically have 3 values

ie...
37x12.50r18
37 " tall
12.5 wide at tread
r radial
18 " wheel

Re: Could I safely run 13.5" tires on 8.5" rims?

I've been running Toyo Open Country 37X13.5R17 on the AEV Pintler 17 X 8.5 wheels for the last 7 years. Fit is perfect, some bulge, but I've never lost a bead. I wheel the hell out of my rig, and air down to 10lbs as soon as I hit the FSR. (Forestry Service Roads). In the winter deep snow or heavy wet snow, I've been down to 2lbs air pressure. These tired are heavy, with load range "E" but I highly recommend. Sidewall is tough and can take everything I've thrown at it. Am extremely happy with this setup.

If you have the clearance in lift you can run this no problem. As for everyday driving, it is not a problem either.
