decals - removal

Back when I de-badged my Sahara in 2010 I was able to remove all decals with a heat gun on low heat, is it that still the case for the 2016 Willy's or BB or Back Country, Sahara or Rubicon?

Re: decals - removal

I tried to remove my "Wrangler Unlimited" decals for my HR with a hair dryer...it didn't work to well. I ended up scraping them off with a credit card and used Goo Off to get all the residue off. It took me about an hour a side....maybe a little less. When using the heat, they still did not stretch and peel but constantly ripped. Anyway, it can still be done but might take longer. Others may have different experiences of course.

Here are my new decals I put on.

I would imagine something like the Topo map on the Black Bear would be a killer. No offense Archer, just don't want the decals - it should be an option to omit.

The Topo map is a $375 option on the Black Bear. If someone doesn't want it, they just don't order it.

Just ordered a 2dr Black bear ... don't remember the topo map even being an option .. don't think it was even offered.
may be wrong tho ... all those decals/applique's listed are a PITA.
Either way, don't recall seeing a $395 option or I would have dumped it.

I myself dig all the Jeep decals (especially the Willys) but... just wanted to warn you guys. Awhile back I used some of that Goo- Be-Gone stuff or whatever it was called. I was taking the dealership sticker off of my wifes new Mustang GT and it had a strange reaction with the factory clearcoat. It took the sticker off all right but it left the paint looking dull and almost orange peelish.. Luckily a good friend has a body shop and he was able to correct it... not fun on a vehicle with less than 100 miles on it. So watch out guys... test whatever you're thinking of using on an out of the way spot on your Jeep first, somewhere out of sight.

Re: decals - removal

I removed the goofy looking hood decals on my 2014 JK Polar about a month after I took delivery in December 2014. I just let my Jeep set in the sun on a bright sunny day for about an hour per side and the decals were heated enough to peel off with no problems at all. At that time of the year the sun was positioned more south and it would only heat one side at a time so I had to do one side and then reposition and let the other side heat up. They came off so cleanly that there wasn't any residue to clean up. ImageUploadedByJeepGarage1447097408.450620.jpg

Funny how people have different taste. One of the guys in our club has a Polar. He traded his blue body colored hard top for a black one. His exact words... "I just couldn't take that fugly, goofy looking top any longer" lol. still has his decals on there though...
