Smile Driving without door on a JKU

Is it legal to drive without doors on a JKU?
I have not yet received my first jeep.
It is on order and being built.
I have seen some information on the net about side view mirrors.
Are the mirrors on the doors?
What do you do for mirrors without the doors?
Sorry for all of the questions.
What are the best work arounds.

Thanks,

Traffic laws differ from state to state. Your DMV is the source for vehicle and traffic laws.

In case somebody from your state is a member, it might help to put your location in your profile.

Pretty much everywhere it's legal as long as you put mirrors on the Jeep when you have the doors off. There are several solutions for these out there, mine are from a company called JeepIt, they've been with me for 10 years on 4 different Jeeps now.

In SC it's okay as long as you add mirrors. Easiest option is safari mirrors in my opinion, but there are also relocation kits out and about.

There are all kinds of side mirrors from ones that use your door hinges to ones that mount to your side windshield bolts.

In IL you just need one rear facing mirror so I was not forced to buy them.

Re: Driving without door on a JKU

In a lot of places the regs carve out an exception for vehicles that have doors which were intended to be removable by the manufacturer. This is why we are okay, but the guy taking his doors off a Pontiac Grand Prix is probably going to be pulled over. Like everyone has said, you do want to check your mirror requirements though. Personally, I run with an attachable driver side mirror for my own safety. Lots of options and I got one from Pep Boys that I can bolt through the hinge. I use nylon washers top and bottom to keep from damaging the hinge paint.

Re: Driving without door on a JKU

In illinois the rear view is good enough. But I do like a drivers side mirror. I use a 2in blind spot mirror on the HVAC vent. Works awesome and I have no blind spot.
