Question E15 and our Jeeps

Watching TV today I see the E15 debate is heating up. Does anyone here have experience with this or E10 vs real gasoline and the long term effects it has on our engines and MPG?

I am planning a trip and if it makes a difference I will but gas without ethanol along the way. I recall when we dropped leaded gas and the effects it had on performance and longevity.

Any thoughts?

Re: E15 and our Jeeps

We have several stations here that only carry gasoline that contains up to 15% ethanol and it seems to do okay. I'd say the only negative effects that I could see would be lower fuel economy because ethanol evaporates and burns faster and seems like it would dry out engine components, increasing friction between pistons and cylinders, etc.

I did use E85 in my '14 WK2 and I probably wouldn't do it again simply because I went from getting about 420-430 miles to a tank to right around 330-340, if that. It's a tad cheaper than regular gasoline, but not enough to justify the loss in fuel economy. My WK2 did perform a little better, though.

Most fuels have been e15 for quite some time. Id say you would be hard pressed to find a car without a fuel map for e15.

Well this may explain why most folk are unable to get the 21 mpg on the sticker. I pick up my 10A tomorrow and will start using 100% gas on a trip to CA. I plan to monitor the mpg closely. All highway no off road till I return. Should be interesting. Unfortunately CA has little 100% gas so ill be mixing a then go pure when I return. If I gain 90 miles per tank I'll believe.
