Extra interior lighting

I found some VERY inexpensive LED strips on Amazon...the switch made me do it.

I've got one strip along the outer seat frame rail on the driver's front and passenger's front, and 3 strips under the rear seats, and 2 more strips in the cargo area. The strips are about 10 inches long. Should look really nice at night once the doors come off.

Re: Extra interior lighting

How did you wire them in? Do they have a separate switch or do they come on with the other interior lights?
Look pretty good, btw.

The switch I posted a photo of operates the "ambient lighting" I added. The original footwell lighting still operates like it's supposed to.

All I did was start at the passenger's front and wired light to light, all the way around the vehicle, ending on the driver's front. It's grounded to one of the grounding posts to the left of the brake pedal, and the power wire runs up to the "acc" portion of the switch. Running all that wire was a PITA, because you need to be cognizant of how the seats move/fold, but it wasn't too bad. Probably have 3 hours in it. The lights are adhesive-backed.

Thanks!

Re: Extra interior lighting

How did you wire it from the switch in order to get power? I think another way of asking is, how is the switch getting power?

Re: Extra interior lighting

I had footwell lights similar to this, which I had wired up to the existing footwell lights, but it took out the entire circuit looks like. I want footwell lights back, but apparently I need to wire it s different way

Ah...I see. OK, so one of the very first things I did when I bought this Jeep was run an additional fuse block to a convenient location. So I'm taking power from the battery to feed my new fuse block, which has 6 fused "circuits" on it. You can get them very inexpensively at any auto parts store. I installed mine behind the knee panel under the steering wheel. Any time I need power for an accessory, I can go there to tap into it. Since everything is LED, you can run a lot of stuff off of each circuit. I ran two circuits into my switch pod. One is running my LED windshield fogs and the interior lighting you see here. I keep it all labeled in case I need to make any changes down the road.

If you go to Advance Auto Parts website and drop this part number in the search box, you'll see what I used. BP/15600-06-20. The photo only shows 3 circuits, but mine has 6 at 20 amps each.

Re: Extra interior lighting

Ok I'm now going to look into this. Where did you get your switch pod? I'm looking on Amazon, and the ones there are ok, but you have some really cool looking switches (the ambient light switch) as opposed to the ones I've seen that are just colored

The switch pod itself is just the Rugged Ridge part number 17235.58.

The switches that I mounted in the pod were from CH4x4. You can find them on Amazon. CH4x4-JKSWLH-W is one of the part numbers you can punch into Amazon to bring them up.

BTW...here's the fuse block:
You run power from the battery to the stud at the top. You then wire your accessory/switch/whatever to one of the 6 blades on the perimeter. Insert a fuse, and you're all set to go, and protected.

Re: Extra interior lighting

I'm diggin' the switch designs! Thanks for the links and pointers. Ah, another project in the makings, and this one may not even break the bank... for a change.

And now all we need is some warmer weather to really enjoy doing the work outside in the fresh air. Greetings from Newbury, OH.
