Flashing light on rear defrost button

I have a 2014 Wrangler with a flashing light on the rear defrost button at startup. Usually occurs for 30 seconds or so then goes off. While its flashing there is no functioning to the heat/ac then everything seems to function normally.
I took it in and the service department contacted Chrysler who said it was probably because my Jeep came with a hard top and I swapped out to a soft top and for me to change it back out and drive it a few days and it should correct itself.

Sounds like hogwash to me.
Anyone else had a similar problem?
Thanks

Re: Flashing light on rear defrost button

The flashing rear defroster LED typically means the HVAC system has detected an internal error. Its the HVAC equivalent to a "check engine" light.

I assume you aren't pressing the rear defroster button, without a rear defroster (ie, hardtop is off), are you?

No, it just started doing it. Last summer I ran the soft top all summer with no problems. Seems odd that it would have an error just not being connected since these vehicles are made to be able to swap out the tops.
Thanks for your reply.

Re: Flashing light on rear defrost button

Just to possibly clarify something, the rear defroster LED blinking means there is a general fault, and not necessarily something that has anything to do with the rear defroster. I guess they had to use some LED to blink if there any fault, and they just picked that LED.

From others reporting the same problem (LED blinking), their fix was to have the entire HVAC electronic controller replaced.
