Angry Front end problem????

I have a 2007 jeep wrangler, when going around 40 mph I get a shimmy, (kinda fills like going over rumble strips), but last a short period of time , but keeps doing it, It does not do it all the time. Has not done it going over 45 at all. Any ideal on what problem is????

Re: Front end problem????

I have a 2007 as well and have experienced the same issue.

First, if you have not done it yet have your tires rotated and balanced.

I followed the instructions that Planman has in his videos on youtube. It is a little time consuming. However, you will find exactly what is causing the shimmy in your front end. Fair warning the videos are slightly lengthy but he will show every part you need to inspect on your front end.

I had to replace my tierod and draglink ends, replace my ball joints, and beef-up my trackbar mounts. This is obviously a worst case scenario. I do flog the crap out of mine while rockcrawling. Let me know if you have any other questions.

Re: Front end problem????

If you have sticking caliper, could cause that too. The rotor on that caliper could have dark or heat marks as an indication of a sticking caliper. I also suggest bleeding the brakes. If it doesn't help with the problem, it's good for the brake system.

Re: Front end problem????

i have the same vibration between 55-63mph , thought it was the tires, bought 4 new tires balanced and aligned and its still there??? i guess its a jeep thing but correct me if I'm wrong. Its not really bad just a mild front end vibration that sure can be felt as its there but after 63mph its gone and before 55mph its smooth riding? what can i check. Are there any TJs out there that run perfectly smooth? could it be an all terrain tire thing?

Refer to my earlier post and go through plan man's checklist. This will find any issue you are having with your front-end. Unfortunately, shimmies and vibrations while driving cannot be diagnosed through a forum. If you know a competent mechanic have them drive your jeep and see what their thoughts are.
