Question GCM....what's the big deal?

To begin with, this is not a flame post.

I have seen almost nothing but GCM this, GCM that, I can't wait for my GCM.

What's the big deal about that color. From what I can tell, it's just another greyish/silverish color.

Do we really need three different shades of grey/silver?

Yes, I know everyone has their own specific taste, and I'm not knocking it. I just wanna understand what is so OMGFANSTASTICICANTWAITFORMYGCM about the color itself.

I don't believe it adds hp or tq or some amazing offroad capability. I might be able to understand the purple being released on the back country since it's a seemingly rare color, or even the hypergreen/copperhead hues. So, GCM fans, illuminate me as to your reasons for OMGGCMGOTTAHAVEITNOW.

Re: GCM....what's the big deal?

GCM just went into production last Monday. It was also not available last year. There is nothing special about the color, just some people have been waiting awhile for it to come back. We are currently waiting on ours to be built.

I, too, wonder what's up with it. So many people are dying to see what it looks like.

It was offered in '14, and there are numerous pics posted of those who own one.

What is indeed special, this is the only color that I know of, that came back after being retired over a year ago.

It was the promotional color for the Willys Wheeler debut at the 2013 auto shows, and it looks pretty sharp on that model:

It's a little dark for my taste, but I haven't ruled it out as a possibility. I get what you're saying, though. It's Billet's darker cousin, though Billet seems to have more "color" in the metallic flake (probably just because it's lighter).

The 2016 Sahara comes with the wheel pockets painted granite crystal, and some trim pieces on other Limited Editions are using the color as well. You'll see Granite Crystal distributed throughout FCA's lineup, including several Dodge models.

Dark gray variations are vying for top honors in vehicle color popularity, currently held by...white.

Yeah, white.

Re: GCM....what's the big deal?

Nothing special about it other than the color selection for this year is a bit weak. It was the only thing new. Plus, we like gray so we ordered one. Looks good next to our white Rubicon and red sport !!

You ain't heard nothing yet. Wait til they start running purple and hypergreen. LOL

Re: GCM....what's the big deal?

Ours is full of metallic too. Very well painted. Found no flaws or thin spots other than a paint drip on the inside of the tailgate. Thanks to Archer Ace and the gang for a job well done.

I also am waiting on my GCM Wrangler, such a beuitful color it is! While looking at 2015 models was undecided between the Orange and Silver. I decided on the Silver but couldnt find a wrangler with the equipment I wanted so ordered a 2016. Then I saw the color Granite Crystal Metallic and to quote the author of this thread "OMGGCMGOTTAHAVEITNOW"

I remember posting a picture of my Mustang on a Mustang forum, and of course, some a-hole felt a need to call-me-out for not having wiped all that "dust" off before taking my picture.
