Help deciding on a wrangler

So, I've got a wk2 and like it, but no way is it going for more than casual off roading. Paid way to much! Anyway I know I'm getting a wrangler for off roading and summer fun
Here's where I would like help and feedback. I found a 98 at a good price ..... It's a 4 banger... Should I pass on it? Are they under powered? My gut tells me to keep looking and get a 6. Whatcha think?

Side note... Tuesday I just missed a diamond in the ruff. Saw a 88 wrangler, 1 owner, 51K miles and close to mint for 6K. I called ASAP and they sold it

Do your research on both as much as possible and go from there.

Re: Help deciding on a wrangler

The 4 is under-powered...especially if you want to put bigger rubber on it and get it to the trail, or drive it around in the summer. The 6 is the way to go. They cost a little more, but for obvious reasons. There were some updates done to the TJ in 99...so I'd also look for a 99 or newer, especially if it's doing double-duty. I loved my TJ when I had it.

Thanks for the input! I kinda thought it may be the case, but the salesman swore to me it would be fine with the 4.... I'll keep looking for the 6...

Re: Help deciding on a wrangler

Hahhaahha...that's all you had to say....that magic word...."salesman". I have yet to meet one that knows anything about the actual vehicle they are selling. If I want to know what axle is under it, I need to go look at it because they think an axle is the dude from Guns and Roses. He's trying to move it because most people will pass on the 4 poppers. They are great little engines, but just not nearly enough to roll 35's on the highway in my opinion.
