Help finding the perfect '15 or order a '16?

Hello,

I'm quite new here. After renting a JK earlier this year I've been trying to withhold myself from a new purchase but I think it's coming time. Iíve found some insightful postings and news on here but also had thought about PM-ing a few folks Iíve followed for advice, however, it turns out I cannot do so until my first post so here goesÖ

I'm interested in a '14-16 JK understanding there's pros and cons. As for deciding on a Sport vs. Sahara, Rubi, etc... well I'm not sure.

On the '14s I think Copperhead is just an awesome color. I also like the Granite that was offered in '14. I have a specific list of features that I'd like and so with that in mind ordering a '16 may be the way to go to get the jeep with everything that I'd like. However, we know the warranty rolls back to 5yr/60k on the 2016 and beyond. That said I will probably put 10-15k a year on it so perhaps the 100 vs 60k mileage wonít matter much.

If I go newÖ Iím wondering if you all think I can get a better deal on a 2015 sitting on a lot somewhere or if Iíd be better off giving a build sheet to dealers and having them bid on my business? If I did go with a 2015 is there a better way to search than cars.com? Iíve set my search radius at 500 miles or the entire US so Iím having to sort through a number of listings (If I purchase new Iím willing to fly and drive or have it transported). Either way Iím looking to get the most for money and plan to start wide and narrow it down to a few dealers looking to make a sale for the volume. Iíve heard anywhere from 1% to 3.5/4% below invoice. 1% is easy (in my mind); Iím looking to push it to make the hard earned dollars go as far as possible.

As for some of the 2014s Iíve liked theyíre all over the countryÖ I donít how realistic these are to fly out to assess the condition and negotiate.

How exactly Iíll use this JeepÖ weíll see. I donít plan to go off-roading right out of the gate. Iím looking for a fun ride to make my camping, hiking, mtn biking, fishing trips all that much more fun. With that said many may say stay clear of the Rubi to save some $$. But my I know myself well enough that a stock sport is going to lead to some tweaks before Iím settled. With a sport or sahara Iíd probably end up with larger tires with a modest lift. Perhaps 33-35Ē tires with a 2 ĹĒ lift. With the Rubicon perhaps I wouldnít have as many urges to mod/add-on.

As for the specs Iím interested in

Year & Color
2014: Copperhead or Granite Crystal
2015: Billet Silver
2016: Billet Silver or Rhino

Model
Sport, Sahara, Rubicon, Rubicon Hard Rock

Options
Side airbags
Hitch
Heated seats
Automatic Air
Bluetooth, uconnect
Alpine audio
Hard top (black or color coordinated)
Fenders (black or color coordinated)
Freedom top headliner (or can get aftermarket)

Thanks for any help, thoughts, comments.

With the possibility of a strike hanging over their head, and enough unhappy employees that they didn't go along with the union leaderships recommendations, I think I would look for something that is available. Otherwise, recognize that there is a least a chance you will have a long wait.

Re: Help finding the perfect '15 or order a '16?

I searched the entire country for the wrangler I wanted. 2014 Willys Wheeler with a manual in granite. It became quickly apparent that wasn't going to happen. Just this week I ordered a new one with everything I want and nothing I don't for a price that is very comparable to what a used would cost. I couldn't be happier, except the wait is going to drive me crazy.

I don't think you have anything to worry about. If Chrysler has any reason to believe there will be a strike they will push out as much as they can, as fast as they can, before that happens. But even having said that, I am very familiar with Chrysler's history as both my parents worked for Chrysler, my mom in upper management. Chrysler has a cash cow right now in the Jeep and they are not about to disrupt that flow of income.

On another note, I think you were smart in ordering. I personally don't like the idea of the Village Idiot test driving my new Jeep or some high school drop out/NASCAR driver want to be delivering it in a dealer swap. A deal on a 2015 is not really a deal as the minute you accept delivery it takes an immediate first year depreciation hit. I would suggest you take a look at the Mopar Life Time service contract to protect this purchase. I bought mine from Ziggler's online as have many others here..

Is Granite Crystal going to be a limited run? Or is the warning because this is Jeep, so you can't get too connected to any color?

I've already ordered mine, so it doesn't really affect me, but I am curious...

RC and Croq... big apology on my end guys. I was thinking Tank when I spoke about Granite. Looks as though Granite will be around for the whole 16my... going by the first page of this thread anyways. But yeah RC... it is available on the 16s.
Sorry bout that. ; (

Re: Help finding the perfect '15 or order a '16?

Order one. "Lot rot" is a very real phenomenon. Better to be patient and get a factory fresh one. Remember, as warranty claims come in, engineers tweak the assembly line to minimize potential trouble spots, so generally in a given model year, the ones produced later have fewer issues. The 2016 changes virtually nothing of significance over 2015(or 2014), so the design is pretty solid at this point but still, fresh is better.

Re: Help finding the perfect '15 or order a '16?

The likelihood of you finding a 2014-2016 drastically different in price is negligible. Sure you can probably find one that fits your budgetary concerns, but will it have all the options you're looking for?

Wranglers hold their value very well. A salesman on the dealer lot isn't gonna give you much, if any, discount simply because a 2015 is a MY older. They want as much profit as they can possibly squeeze out of your wallet. They have zero incentive to deal on wranglers when they know people will pay retarded amounts of money for one with no options, just to say they have one. Wranglers have become a fad with the drop in gas prices. Prepare to pay fad MSRP, unless you do your research into the real costs involved.

Buy new if you can get the same options/color you're looking for as you could on an older model. You will pay roughly the same price and you wont have a salesman trying to fleece you for brand new price on a 2014/15 with 20k+ miles on the clock already.
