How much room?

I've got a question for the JKU guys. My wife and I are looking into trading our car in for a Jeep. We'll I am cuz it's something else 4x4 I can put a winch on and she's ok with it lol. She wants a convertible which I hate and this is the closest thing to it. But I need to know first how much room is there in the back? I currently have a 70lb dog and 98lb puppy who we take travelling with us quite a bit and our truck is not the greatest on gas. Anybody have any experience with their dogs in it or pictures? Any help is going to help me convince the wife!

Re: How much room?

There is plenty of space back there. The "trunk" area is maybe a little smaller than a traditional SUV. With the back seats folded down, you've got a ton of space. 4' wide, 3' deep...give or take a few inches. Fold down the back seat and you've got more like 4' wide, 6' deep. If you need exact dimensions PM me...I can always run out and take a few measurements for you.

Thanks! It's bigger than it looks. My local dealer only has a 2 door on the lot so I'm taking a drive to the other dealer about 40 minutes away to check some out. The back seat is a 60/40 split by the looks of it? And I guess without the sub there's a few extra inches

That's what she said....

Yeah, 60-40 ish. They fold flat, which is really helpful when you're trying to cube it out with junk. Trust me...I just moved. You can get quite a bit in there. The lack of a sub will probably buy you 2-3 inches on the passenger's side. You're really then only limited by the inner fenders.

The picture is of a '14 and older. The '15s on up removed the side sub for a floor mounted sub in the cargo area. It's recessed in the old "trunk" space so you have maximum room back there now even with the sub.

Really? I learned something new today. That's kinda sweet. Except I store stuff in that "trunk".

Good to know. I'm sure that now I can convert mine to the '15 design if I wanted to down the road.

Yeah I store alot of random things in mine as well. Guess that's just more aftermarket storage if I ever swap mine out too.

The '14 and earlier used a two channel (dual voice coil) sub. The '15 and later use a four channel (quad voice coil) water proof sub.

Re: How much room?

Plenty of space back there. My mutts are 95 and 60 lbs and can both lay down with room to spare. I picked up a second set of windows, cut out the plastic and wove paracord through the openings. That way I can flop the top back into Sunrider mode for the people, but the dogs aren't exposed to direct sunlight in the back. Keeps 'em contained and gives 'em load of fresh air. They love it!

That's an awesome idea! How did you attach the cord on the inside?

I just have them tied in knots, like this.

Edit- I measured for fairly even spacing and used a drill to quickly bang out the holes, with a 2x4 underneath.
